Job Description
The Senate Fiscal Agency a nonpartisan agency of the Michigan Legislature is seeking a Unit Assistant. Unit Assistants are responsible primarily for preparing budget documents word documents and other duties for their assigned unit consisting of the Associate Director and Fiscal Analysts. This Unit Assistant will also act as backup to the Business Manager playing a critical role in processing Agency bills payroll processing and assisting in other HR functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs accurate and timely word processing and proofreading of all reports issue papers tables analyses budget-related material and correspondence for the assigned unit.
2. Assists management in designing formatting and editing for consistency in Agency products.
3. Performs other duties as assigned by management personnel which may include backup of business manager functions.
4. Serve on internal Senate Fiscal Agency committees.
Required Education and Experience
Successful candidates must possess a strong attention to detail and ability to process confidential information accurately. Proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel Adobe Illustrator and InDesign as well as experience with State of Michigan payroll systems (SIGMA and Infor/HRMN) is encouraged.
Alternate Education and Experience
1. Extensive experience with Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel Adobe or other applicable software and the ability to learn new technologies and software as needed.
2. Knowledge of the organization punctuation and composition of business letters reports charts and tabular material.
3. Knowledge of correct English usage spelling and punctuation.
4. Ability to prioritize workloads during stressful situations occurring as a result of short deadlines.
5. Ability to use tact discretion and judgment in communications and distribution of information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS:
This job is performed in a general office environment and generally requires minimal physical effort or exertion. A significant amount of each day is spent working at a personal computer. The incumbent will be required to communicate orally and in writing. There is pressure to work with multiple priorities under tight time frames. The job duties may require more than a normal 40-hour work week especially while the Legislature is in session when evening weekend and holiday hours may be necessary.

Under MCL 4.1501(4) individuals employed by the Senate Fiscal Agency are nontenured at-will employees. The Senate Fiscal Agency Governing Board may discipline transfer demote suspend or summarily discharge an employee.
