Job Summary

The Building Operator ensures the safe efficient and reliable operation of all mechanical and building systems within the H2O Adventure Fitness Centre. This includes pool systems HVAC plumbing electrical and life-safety systems. The role supports optimal building performance high water quality standards and a safe environment for members staff and the public.

This position requires a detail-oriented mechanically skilled individual with strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to maintenance and safety.

  • Operate inspect and maintain HVAC units boilers pumps filters and automation controls.
  • Monitor and maintain pool chemistry and water balance in compliance with Interior Health regulations.
  • Conduct daily equipment rounds log readings and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Respond to alarms mechanical failures and operational issues.
  • Support contractors vendors and City of Kelowna representatives during maintenance and capital projects.
  • Adhere to WorkSafeBC Technical Safety BC Interior Health and YMCA SIBC policies.
  • Participate in monthly safety inspections emergency lighting tests and equipment checks.
  • Maintain records of inspections work orders and compliance forms in CMMS.
  • Report hazards or unsafe conditions to the Facility Manager.
  • Coordinate with Aquatics Fitness Housekeeping and Membership teams.
  • Collaborate with other Building Operators on maintenance planning and special projects.
  • Mentor and support junior maintenance staff.

Wed love to hear from people with:

  • Trade certification (e.g. Journeyman Electrician Plumber Class 4 Power Engineer).
  • 23 years experience in facility or building maintenance; aquatic facility experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of pool systems filtration and chemical feed.
  • Experience with chlorine gas or pressurized chemical systems.
  • Pool Operator Level I or II Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Working knowledge of HVAC plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with CMMS.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and perform physically active work safely.
