We are looking to recruit a Roads Technical Advisor in Inverness or Perth to join the Specialist Service Delivery CI Roads Team (formerly the NRSWA Team) to support our Capital Programme looking after the Northwest Area of Scotland. Youll be working as part of a larger team under the guidance of the CI Roads Specialist Team Manager.
In this role youll guide advise audit and look after Scottish Waters reputation on all things relating to our work on Scotlands Roads. Youll also assist in the coordination and planning of road works and play a leading role in getting access to the road network balancing the expectations of our Stakeholders both internal and external. Your goal is to ensure these projects meet Scottish Waters statutory obligations and business objectives while promoting the teams Safer Better Greener initiative.
What youll do
Youll enable the Capital Programme to progress with strong Stakeholder Management and by providing expert and timely advice and guidance to help ensure that our project teams can gain access to the road network across the Northwest of Scotland in the timescale and manner necessary to allow projects to successfully meet their objectives and contribute to the successful delivery of Scottish Waters Capital Programme.
Youll assist in identifying and evaluating risks and issues early in the project lifecycle and help by giving expert advice for solutions. An overview of the Traffic Management type of reinstatement and other engineering considerations will need to be evaluated to help de-risk projects.
You will coordinate with to the Road Authorities and other Utilities throughout the planning construction and reinstatement stages to help ensure that we meet our procedural and statutory obligations to safely deliver quality work. A critical aspect of the role is for you develop and harness relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally to Scottish Water.
It is a dynamic role where Continuous Improvement is a key factor for Scottish Waters success in delivering its programme in an efficient and affordable way and your insight and knowledge will play a key role in ensuring lessons are learnt for the benefit of the capital programme and wider business where appropriate.
Youll monitor and analyse the Scottish Road Works Register for various Road Authority Inspections and manage these accordingly.
With help from the team and your line manager you will manage your work schedule and balance tasks according to importance time logistical considerations and statutory obligation.
Youll be looking after the North West Highlands in practical terms thats as far north as Wick as far south as Fort William as far West as the Inner Hebrides. Youll work with colleagues and partners to review site work and you may occasionally need to travel to remote locations depending on business needs.
What youll need
As youll be working with both internal and external stakeholders youll need strong interpersonal and influencing skills a dynamic mindset for problem-solving and understanding the wider picture and confidence in your own communication and reporting with Civil Engineering Construction and in particular a working knowledge and understanding of Utility Road Works. Qualifications in this regard would be a real bonus but we will commit to a training and development plan to fill any gaps.
Theres a few nice to haves that could help you along the road Lean training (white/ yellow belt or equivalent) would be a distinct advantage. Skills in MS Word and Excel is essential and Power BI would be a real bonus.
Youll need to have a full clean UK driving license.
Ideally youll be based in Inverness but were al happy to consider if youre based in Perth.

The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 5. If youre new to Scottish Water youll join us on a starting salary of 32650. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of 38610.
