Responsibilities & Qualifications

The TekSynap is seeking a Senior Systems Security Engineer. The Senior Systems Security Engineer (SSE) serves as Key Personnel under the NSWCDD Corporate IT Services contract. This role provides advanced cybersecurity engineering and technical risk management support across Navy IT systems. The SSE ensures compliance with DoD Navy and RMF (Risk Management Framework) requirements and supports the design implementation and validation of secure IT systems. This position is responsible for performing cybersecurity architecture reviews system hardening and vulnerability remediation to ensure accreditation and sustained cybersecurity posture.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement cybersecurity engineering and system security plans in accordance with DoD and Navy policies.
  • Conduct Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) assessments and apply hardening measures to servers networks and applications.
  • Lead system risk assessments vulnerability management and compliance validation activities.
  • Support RMF package development including creation and maintenance of artifacts such as SSPs POA&Ms and Continuous Monitoring strategies.
  • Coordinate with system administrators engineers and ISSMs to ensure configuration baselines and patches align with security requirements.
  • Perform TEMPEST network intrusion analysis and configuration audits as .
  • Recommend corrective actions to mitigate security vulnerabilities and risks.
  • Conduct security impact analyses and participate in engineering change reviews.
  • Support system security testing and evaluation (ST&E) activities prior to authorization.
  • Ensure information system security controls are implemented and operating effectively throughout the system lifecycle.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of professional experience providing IT security engineering support for DoD or Navy systems including risk management security testing and STIG compliance.
  • Must meet DoD IAT Level III certification requirements (e.g. Security CE CASP or CISSP).
  • Strong background in RMF vulnerability management and system security architecture. Proficient in use of ACAS HBSS and eMASS tools.
  • Extensive understanding of DoD cybersecurity policies system authorization processes and Navy cybersecurity compliance frameworks.
