Job Description Summary:


Provides illness management health promotion and family education to those who require home respiratory services and specializes in the promotion of optimum cardiopulmonary function and health. Applies scientific principles to preventing identifying and treating acute or chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system.


Job Description:


Essential Functions:

  • Provides respiratory equipment delivery to patients in a timely manner in a clean and maintained state and in compliance with regulations.
  • Provides respiratory education to patients and families in the inpatient or home setting on the safe use of oxygen and respiratory equipment and the parameters of use.
  • Practices under medical direction across the health care continuum. Develops and implements effective care plans patient-driven protocols disease-based clinical pathways and disease management programs.
  • Provides respiratory care using a family centered approach and assesses individualized patient cardiopulmonary needs and communicates them to the care team.
  • Embraces the interdisciplinary care model and stays aware of changes participating in data auditing and understanding Quality Improvement.

Education Requirement:

Associate degree from CoArc-accredited Respiratory Care program required. Bachelors degree preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

  • Current Ohio License to practice Respiratory Care.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care required.
  • Valid Ohio drivers license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection insurance eligibility driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Childrens Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Certifications:

  • Current CPR card required.
  • Dependent on unit of hire RT will need to obtain and maintain PALS or NRP.
  • Additional credential of NPS strongly encouraged for all staff. RPFT and AE-C are encouraged for select areas.

Skills:

  • Critical Thinking and patient or environment assessment skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients and parents and hospital staff.
