Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Senior Director for Employee Experience & Organization Development the Employee Services Assistant supports the activities for the Employee Services Center (Center) an on-campus site that combines front-desk services and administrative support for Human Resources. This position will support a streamlined efficient and employee-focused experience for Cal Polys employees by performing a variety of administrative functions and communications. This role is dedicated to fostering an inclusive welcoming environment for employees and providing accurate guidance and information on Human Resources programs and processes.

Department Summary

The Human Resources (HR) department at Cal Poly leads workplace strategies that enable employees to thrive in their roles. Through traditional practices like recruitment payroll benefits employee relations information systems and performance management to strategic practices like professional development organization development workforce planning and engagement Human Resources is dedicated to cultivating the excellence of our approximately 6000 employees.

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service experience in a complex organization requiring a very high level of diplomacy professionalism and courtesy at all times with staff faculty students and the general public in-person on the telephone and via email. Ability to screen mail telephone calls and visitors and to understand typical office correspondence and clearly explain routine procedures and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with campus staff managers students administrators and the public with tact and professionalism; determine how best to meet needs and respond or refer appropriately either within the department or to other resources.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of all files and information regarding department and university matters.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner both verbally and in writing; and thorough knowledge of English grammar punctuation and spelling.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or its equivalent. Type 45 wpm. Three years of general office support experience. (Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of college education for 6 months of experience).

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $43632 - $55344 Per Year

Classification Range:$42780 - $61104 Per Year

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience skills knowledge abilities education licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position based on internal equity budget and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
