What Youll Do As A Senior Health Physicist:
Acts as a liaison with federal state & county emergency response officials offsite responders & nuclear facilities to provide input for nuclear emergency response plans & procedures ensure continuity of essential functions during a nuclear even or incident identify non-compliance issues & recommend corrective action plan & research & monitor plans & programs of nuclear utilization facilities to ensure environmental & safety program compliance:
Coordinates monitors & evaluates scientific & technical information related to health physics/emergency response programs;
Directs operation &/or operates computer model at state &/or local level to assess radiological consequences from malfunctions at facilities possessing radiological materials;
Interprets results of local state & utility company dose projection/protective action recommendations in regard to short-term effects on area residents;
Advises federal state &/or local officials of radiation levels areas needing evacuation safe locations for evacuees & other protective actions needed to ensure health & safety for residents of affected areas;
Ensures offsite response organizations are properly trained for response to malfunctions at nuclear facilities & other situations involving radioactive materials;
Schedules & conducts educational programs/training concerning radiological emergency planning radiation detection protective actions & effects of ionizing radiation;
Gathers interprets analyzes & organizes technical information into emergency response plans & procedures to cope with hazards of radiological incidents & accidents;
Responds to radiological incidents or accidents;
Responsible for the coordination training development & materials for the State Field Monitoring Teams;
Represents the state advises state &/or local government officials interprets federal guidance for emergency responders & public;
Maintains inventory of supplies for calibrated radiation detection equipment contamination control & decontamination material & thyroid blocking agent (KI) at all affected offsite emergency response organizations in accordance with federal & state guidance;
May participate in observation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspections &/or evaluation of nuclear industry that relate to offsite safety;
Distributes notifications regarding certain shipments of radioactive materials scheduled for transport within or through the state;
Attends meetings & conferences regarding radiological issues; Prepares & delivers presentations;
Reviews all appropriate federal & state radiological guidelines for consistency with state &/or local goals & objectives;
Drafts &/or updates operating procedures or sections of the radiological emergency operations plan for stakeholders (i.e. state & county agencies local organizations etc.) functioning in a radiological environment;
Assists in or completes Annual Letter of Certification;
Develops & maintains a computer database to ensure compliance with federal & state radiological regulations;
Makes presentations to state &/or local government officials county commissioners & general public;
Assists counties with compliance to state & federal radiological regulations;
Assists in the training of & response to any radiological & nuclear detection;
Assists in preparing coordinating monitoring & evaluating emergency exercises;
Participates as member of statewide emergency response team for accidents involving radiological materials;
Assists with support duties for non-radiological emergencies in order to meet agency operational needs.

The Ohio Emergency Management Agency is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety and is the states central point of coordination for response to and recovery from disasters. OPTION 2 - Completion of undergraduate core program in health physics nuclear physics nuclear engineering radiation physics radiation sciences bionucleonics radiologic technology nuclear medicine technology radiation therapy or physics; AND 24 mos. of full-time experience working with one of following: radioactive materials which must include engineering principles relative to effects of radiation on metals & other components of radioactive material sources or devices analysis of radioactive materials in environment decommissioning of sites contaminated with radioactive materials radiation- generating equipment experience that deals with regulatory requirements that involves radiation surveys for dose assessment radiation inspections analysis of situations involving radioactive materials or radiologic health & safety; AND must be able to provide own transportation.
OPTION 3 - NRRPT CHP NMTCB or ARRT certification; AND 24 mos. of full-time experience working with one of following: radioactive materials which must include engineering principles relative to effects of radiation on metals & other components of radioactive material sources or devices analysis of radioactive materials in environment decommissioning of sites contaminated with radioactive materials radiation- generating equipment experience that deals with regulatory requirements that involves radiation surveys for dose assessment radiation inspections analysis of situations involving radioactive materials or radiologic health & safety; AND must be able to provide own transportation.
OPTION 4 - Completion of Navy nuclear school; AND 24 mos. of full-time experience working with one of following: radioactive materials which must include engineering principles relative to effects of radiation on metals & other components of radioactive material sources or devices analysis of radioactive materials in environment decommissioning of sites contaminated with radioactive materials radiation- generating equipment experience that deals with regulatory requirements that involves radiation surveys for dose assessment radiation inspections analysis of situations involving radioactive materials or radiologic health & safety; AND must be able to provide own transportation.
OPTION 5 - Completion of graduate core program in health physics nuclear physics nuclear engineering radiation physics radiation sciences bionucleonics radiologic technology nuclear medicine technology radiation therapy or physics; AND 12 mos. of full-time experience working with one of following: radioactive materials which must include engineering principles relative to effects of radiation on metals & other components of radioactive material sources or devices analysis of radioactive materials in environment decommissioning of sites contaminated with radioactive materials radiation- generating equipment experience that deals with regulatory requirements that involves radiation surveys for dose assessment radiation inspections analysis of situations involving radioactive materials or radiologic health & safety; AND must be able to provide own transportation.
OPTION 6 - 24 mos. exp. as Health Physicist 84642 AND must be able to provide own transportation.
