JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics is seeking to hire an undergraduate student recent graduate or graduate student to work part-time as a Telescope Assistant for the spring 2026 semester. The selected candidate will lead and grade rooftop telescope activities and planetarium show activities for introductory astronomy students on weeknights (Mon - Thu). We are seeking applicants who already have proficiency in making observations with Schmidt-Cassegrain and Dobsonian telescopes and with conducting night sky tours with our full-dome planetarium system (or a similar system). Availability for 5-10 hours per week in the evenings is necessary.

Schedule: Expected hours will be approximately 5-10 hours/week.

Compensation: The starting rate for this job is $15/hour.

The selected candidate will report to Dr. Julia Kregenow. Interviews will be conducted in Fall 2025 so that the selected candidate can begin training in January 2026. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
