The Role
Were looking for a sharp creative and editorially astute Sub Editor to join ABC News Social Media team. Youll be someone that can spot typos at a glance tighten captions in a social-first way and ensure every post meets the highest standards of accuracy clarity and tone. Help us shape the voice of Australias most trusted news brand on social media.
The Job
- Sub-edit fact check and quality control social media content before publication including captions video text and graphics
- Work with leads and specialists to shape and refine the editorial voice on social media to ensure tone style and storytelling reflect ABC News values and standards
- Ensure accuracy clarity consistency and style guide adherence.
- Ensure all content meets legal and editorial requirements
- Provide constructive feedback and identify training needs for reporters.
- Keep staff updated on style guides editorial policies and accessibility requirements.
- Stay informed on language trends and audience expectations.

About You
Youll have:
- Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience as a sub-editor in news or digital publishing.
- Strong communication skills with excellent grammar style and editorial judgment and a flair for concise compelling language.
- Sound knowledge of ABC editorial policies defamation and copyright law.
- Experience providing feedback support and training to content makers.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines
- Proficient in Khoros Canva and Adobe Premiere.
- Familiar with accessibility and inclusive language standards.
