Job Summary

INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE / BEHAVIOR CLASSROOM

JOB TITLE: Instructional Behavior Aide

REPORTS TO: Campus or Department Principal

DEPARTMENT/CAMPUS:Indian Success Academy

PRIMARY PURPOSE:Assist the teacher in providing students with the opportunities to realize their academic potential through the preparation and management of classroom activities while under the supervision of a certified teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Eligible for certification as an Aide I or II
  • Must be Highly Qualified as described by the No child left Behind Act. (At least 48 college credits or have a PACT Certificate.)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. without assistance

Experience:

  • Some experience working with children


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Assist the teacher with individual students in all curricular areas. The assistance may be individual small group or large group.
  • Assist the teacher with instructional materials gathering assignments and disseminating materials to other instructional staff when necessary.
  • Be familiar with and able to use curriculum and other available materials to assist student progress.
  • Assist the Teacher in screening and informal assessments.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom and materials for instruction.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Reinforce building classroom and/or individual behavior plans.
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Collect and file records as directed to assist students and teachers.
  • Assist in inventory and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Attend team meetings and assist with communication between mainstream teachers and other special education staff.
  • Provide assistance in an environment other than the designated supervising teachers classroom as needed.
  • Understand the individual differences and needs of students.
  • Provide assistance to students with disabilities as assigned by the teacher principal Director of Special Education or designee.
  • Participate in in-service training programs provided by the local district.
  • Assist in some situations with students who display aggressive behaviors when needed.
  • Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.
  • Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
  • Work in harmony with supervisory faculty and peer personnel.
  • Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
  • Use positive professional communication at all times with staff students and parents.
  • Support and follow administrative and board policy.
  • Represent the school system to the community in a positive professional way.
  • Maintain a sincere friendly attitude toward patrons.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions

Terms of Employment:

  • Work year established by the board; salary according to current schedule.

Evaluation:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
