Job Summary

INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE / BEHAVIOR CLASSROOM

JOB TITLE: Instructional Behavior Aide

REPORTS TO: Campus or Department Principal

DEPARTMENT/CAMPUS:Indian Success Academy

PRIMARY PURPOSE:Assist the teacher in providing students with the opportunities to realize their academic potential through the preparation and management of classroom activities while under the supervision of a certified teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High School diploma or GED
Eligible for certification as an Aide I or II
Must be Highly Qualified as described by the No child left Behind Act. (At least 48 college credits or have a PACT Certificate.)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to lift 30 lbs. without assistance

Experience:

Some experience working with children

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Assist the teacher with individual students in all curricular areas. The assistance may be individual small group or large group.
Assist the teacher with instructional materials gathering assignments and disseminating materials to other instructional staff when necessary.
Be familiar with and able to use curriculum and other available materials to assist student progress.
Assist the Teacher in screening and informal assessments.
Assist in preparing and maintaining the classroom and materials for instruction.
Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.
Reinforce building classroom and/or individual behavior plans.
Assist in supervising students throughout the school day both inside and outside the classroom.
Collect and file records as directed to assist students and teachers.
Assist in inventory and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Attend team meetings and assist with communication between mainstream teachers and other special education staff.
Provide assistance in an environment other than the designated supervising teachers classroom as needed.
Understand the individual differences and needs of students.
Provide assistance to students with disabilities as assigned by the teacher principal Director of Special Education or designee.
Participate in in-service training programs provided by the local district.
Assist in some situations with students who display aggressive behaviors when needed.
Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct.
Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
Work in harmony with supervisory faculty and peer personnel.
Use professional information discreetly and judiciously.
Use positive professional communication at all times with staff students and parents.
Support and follow administrative and board policy.
Represent the school system to the community in a positive professional way.
Maintain a sincere friendly attitude toward patrons.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:

Work year established by the board; salary according to current schedule.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
