Scope

Two students completing a master thesis 30 hp each.

Background
Applications deployed across multiple markets require fast reliable translations to deliver a consistent user experience. Manual translation workflows are often slow inconsistent and difficult to scale. Verifying translation quality across many languages adds complexity especially when it depends on native speakers with technical expertise. AI-based approaches offer potential advantages in both speed and consistency. They also help address the challenge of evaluating translation quality without human language proficiency.

Goal
The goal of this thesis is to investigate how AI can be effectively integrated into translation workflows to improve both speed and quality assurance. You will design and evaluate AI-assisted workflows capable of handling full-application translations. You will also assess their performance using measurable quality metrics. A key challenge is verifying translation quality without relying on native speakers. Your work will explore how AI can help solve this and generate insights that inform improvements to our current translation processes.

Objectives

• Develop methods using AI to perform translation of an entire application.
• Compare different strategies and metrics for measuring quality of translations.
• Demonstrate how your approach can uncover issues in both existing translations and in AI-assisted workflows.

Expected outcomes

• A proposed architecture for an AI-assisted translation workflow.
• A prototype showing key steps in the translation pipeline.
• An evaluation of translation quality using selected metrics.
