As Assistant Manager Engineering youll be the driving force behind our facility operations ensuring every system structure and space functions flawlessly.

In this hands-on leadership role youll oversee daily maintenance activities coordinate technical teams and serve as acting department head in the Directors absence. Youll bring structure and strategy to a fast-paced environment balancing proactive planning with swift quality-driven execution.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Engineering and Maintenance department.
  • Act as department leader in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
  • Schedule team members to align with business and operational needs.
  • Review daily timesheets authorize payroll and manage weekly maintenance schedules.

Strategic Planning & Budgeting

  • Participate in monthly expense reviews forecasting and month-end reporting.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and recommend timely purchase of replacement parts and materials.
  • Support hotel energy conservation initiatives and long-term sustainability goals.

Technical Oversight

  • Supervise hotel and staff accommodation maintenance including building systems public areas guest rooms and back-of-house spaces.
  • Manage the propertys preventative maintenance program and ensure timely execution.
  • Oversee building automation and energy management systems to optimize efficiency.
  • Coordinate with contractors for specialized work; verify quality and safety standards.

Team Development

  • Train mentor and support maintenance employees to build technical expertise and engagement.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism pride and continuous improvement.
  • Lead daily toolbox talks and contribute to monthly health & safety meetings.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Represent the Engineering Department in leadership and operations meetings.
  • Partner closely with other departments to identify needs schedule work and minimize guest impact.
  • Respond to guest requests promptly and professionally ensuring timely follow-up.

Qualifications :

What You Bring

  • A degree in mechanical engineering or skilled trade certification in Plumbing Electrical Carpentry or other building trade certification supported by 5 years of leadership experience in a maintenance or engineering role.
  • Proven ability to lead by example motivating your team to deliver excellence while maintaining safety and efficiency as top priorities.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills you see the big picture while keeping a close eye on the details.
  • Confidence in analyzing data budgets and reports using insights to guide decisions and optimize performance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments while maintaining clear and direct expectations.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Experience in luxury hospitality where balancing guest experience with operational excellence is second nature.
  • A natural sense of accountability urgency and precision you take ownership and ensure the job gets done right safely and on time.

Bonus if You Bring

  • Power engineering class 5 or higher.
  • Hands-on knowledge of energy conservation initiatives or sustainability projects.
  • Familiarity with Forbes or LQA standards and an understanding of how engineering excellence shapes the guest experience.
  • A knack for training and developing teams ensuring technical skill and engagement go hand in hand.
  • A genuine passion for mountain hospitality and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

Physical Demands

  • Regular standing walking bending lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Use of tools ladders and power equipment.
  • Work in varying temperatures and conditions occasionally after hours or in emergencies.

 

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
