Job description
We are seeking a skilled Research Assistant to support our energy analysts in modelling national and regional energy transitions. You will contribute to detailed model building policy research and analysis focusing on climate and energy transitions in Australia and Asia-Pacific countries.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting data collection
- Compiling and maintaining of databases
- Actively working with the modeling team to develop a whole-of-system energy model on LEAP.
- Analysing policy implications from energy system data and modelling and data analysis.
- Contribute to the drafting of reports and analyses of climate and energy policy issues in Australia and Asia-Pacific countries
Your profile
- Essential criteria
- Masters degree in climate economics climate policy energy studies or related field.
- Strong quantitative background and interest in energy system modelling
- Solidunderstanding of climate change mitigation and knowledge of energy system transformation
- Previous hands-on energy system modelling experience (LEAP or other solutions)
- Highly proficient in Excel
- Experience in data collection for sector-specific parameters and time-series data particularly familiaritywith the Australian data sources
- the applicant should have unrestricted working rights in Australia
- Desirable criteria
- Sector-specific experience (heavy industries end-use energy consumers)
- Advanced knowledge of Low Emissions Analysis Platform (LEAP)
- Experience of building granular LEAP modules for specific sectors like heavy industries or end-use sector

Established in 2017 Climate Analytics Australia Pacific based in Perth develops emissions reduction benchmarks and mitigation strategies aligned to the 1.5C warming limit. The team is also engaged in a variety of projects on loss and damage and climate adaptation. The office works closely with our longstanding partners in Australia the Pacific and East and Southeast Asia. Our analyses are designed to inform a wide variety of stakeholders including civil society government media and industry.
Working in close collaboration with other Climate Analytics offices and global teams our international and diverse Australia-Pacific Office team currently has seven staff members and several associates in the broader region.

Our international team is composed of roughly 140 staff.
