Position Title: Seasonal Temporary Assistant Gardener

Department: Horticulture

Reports to: Forepersons & Manager of Horticulture

FLSA Status: Seasonal Non-exempt

Compensation: $19 per hour

Position Description:

Under supervision the assistant gardener assists in and performs basic landscaping gardening and related work.

Primary Responsibilities (work will include some or all of the following):

• Assist in and perform tasks such as mulching raking plant bed preparation weeding watering planting and pruning.
• Assist in care of turf including mowing soil prep sowing aerating mulching application of amendments and irrigation.
• Assist in irrigation of indoor plant collections and other conservatory tasks.
• Assist in and perform tasks involved in operation and care of hand- and power-gardening tools and equipment.
• Operate motorized equipment incidental to the performance of duties.
• As directed perform any other task related to horticulture needs cleaning of grounds and equipment.

Qualifications:

• Some experience and/or education in gardening work during spring summer and/or fall including work with power tools in addition to experience in caring for trees shrubs perennials and lawns and/or some experience and/or education related to indoor plant care

Work Environment Issues:

• Ability to work outside in all types of weather
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
