Overview

The Senior Manager Environment Health & Safety Production is responsible for overseeing day-to-day EHS activities during the construction and production launch of Scouts South Carolina vehicle manufacturing facility. The role ensures a safe healthy and compliant work environment while driving continuous improvement and fostering a proactive safety culture across all operations.

Reporting to the Senior Director EHS this position partners with stakeholders throughout the organization to develop and implement effective programs policies and standards that support Scouts long-term EHS and production objectives.

The Senior Manager plays a key leadership role in establishing Scout Motors production operations on a foundation of safety environmental stewardship and operational excellence.

Strategic Alignment & Planning

  • Support the Senior Director in developing and implementing EHS strategic objectives aligned with Scouts corporate and production goals.
  • Translate strategic direction into actionable programs and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide input on long-range EHS planning resource needs and operational readiness for production launch.
  • Monitor emerging trends technologies and best practices in EHS to inform future strategy.

Culture and Engagement

  • Create and foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders regulators and team members.
  • Embrace Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and ensure incorporation into EHS activities objectives and initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for employee engagement to make EHS part of daily work for all Scouts.
  • Lead coach and develop the EHS team; serve as a technical expert across functions.
  • Use proactive data and insights to drive EHS programming forward.
  • Innovate on traditional EHS practices to better support employees and business needs.

Program Development & Implementation

  • Contribute to the development and deployment of EHS policies procedures and programs.
  • Implement EHS initiatives in a collaborative results-driven manner that ensures adoption and compliance.
  • Deploy Process Safety Management (PSM) systems for covered processes; oversee safety buyoffs for equipment installation and commissioning; manage ergonomic interventions.
  • Support activities to achieve ISO and 50001 certifications.
  • Collaborate with occupational medical and early symptom intervention providers workers compensation representatives and others for case management and return-to-work programs.
  • Develop and manage an operating budget for consumables and services.

Standards Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain standardized documentation of EHS programs inspections audits and corrective actions.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (incident rates audit outcomes training completion).
  • Benchmark Scouts programs against industry best practices and lead targeted improvements.
  • Support the development of SOPs and performance dashboards promoting transparency and accountability.

Digital Systems AI and VR

  • Utilize Benchmark Avetta and Hammertech to monitor EHS program health and contractor compliance.
  • Identify and manage appropriate use of AI and VR tools (e.g. Gaize) for impairment testing risk identification and training.
  • Serve as system owner for Hammertech Avetta and Gaize.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements including environmental permits (PSD Title V industrial wastewater etc.).
  • Perform risk assessments addressing equipment safety industrial hygiene ergonomics process safety and environmental impacts.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans based on assessments process knowledge and event data.
  • Maintain required regulatory records and workers compensation documentation.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and auditors.
  • Assure closure of any audit and incident-related corrective actions in area of responsibility.

Communication & Reporting

  • Develop and deliver communications related to production-related EHS performance and initiatives.
  • Provide leadership with regular reports and dashboards summarizing key metrics and trends.
  • Lead internal awareness campaigns that promote proactive safety and environmental responsibility.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Develop and manage the EHS production operating budget including tools consumables and professional services.
  • Identify cost-effective solutions to enhance EHS performance and compliance efficiency.
  • Track spending against budget and report variances to the Senior Director.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia SC and Blythewood SC.
  • The responsibilities of this role requireattendance at in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the companyfrom time to time.
  • Travel: Domestic and International Travel Required up to 15% of the time. Valid Drivers License Required. Passport Required.

  • Bachelors degree in Health & Safety Occupational Health Engineering or related field; certifications (ASP/CSP CIH) preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in EHS preferably within industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations ISO standards and consensus standards (RIA NFPA ASTM etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and psychosocial safety.
  • Experience managing relationships with regulators and external auditors.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in EHS digital systems; experience with Benchmark Avetta and Hammertech preferred.
  • Experience supporting large-scale industrial construction or manufacturing projects preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Passport Required.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidates skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range $150000.00 - $181250.00
