We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026 Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health a newly merged health service with more than 22000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce providing new training education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026 all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.

AMAH has a mental health service and planning responsibility for residents of inner south-eastern metropolitan Melbourne. We care for people with severe and complex mental illness and psychological distress seeking specialist mental health & addiction treatment care and support. We are committed to implementing the reform agenda established by the Victorian government following the Royal Commission into Victorias Mental Health System.
The Womens Recovery Network (WREN)a 35-bed statewide womens mental health serviceand Ngamai Wilam a new 12-bed residential eating disorder program in Armadale with with the AMAH Statewide and Speoc.
Together these services advance the reform directions arising from the Royal Commission into Victorias Mental Health and Wellbeing System providing trauma-informed gender-safe and family-inclusive care that integrates clinical and lived experience expertise.
Were seeking a Project Consultant (Carer Lived Experience) to bring carer and family lived expertise into the design delivery and improvement of statewide services across WREN and Ngamai Wilam.
The role is a key member of the AMAH Statewide Services leadership team embedding carer voice strengthening family-inclusive practice and building capability across multidisciplinary teams.
Educate & Build Capability Lead and co-produce orientation and training for staff across WREN and Ngamai Wilam to enhance understanding of the value and distinct contribution of the Carer Lived Experience workforce.
Engage & Influence Collaborate with leaders clinicians researchers and external partners to embed carer perspectives in service design care planning and quality improvement initiatives.
Establish Participation & Outcomes Develop sustainable mechanisms for carer participation representation and feedback and co-design outcome measures to evaluate the impact of carer lived experience roles on safety quality and recovery outcomes.
Grow the Workforce Support recruitment mentoring supervision and professional pathways for the Carer Lived Experience workforce ensuring discipline-specific supervision and ongoing supports are in place.
Governance & Reform Contribute to clinical governance forums co-author guidance and help operationalise reform priorities such as trauma-informed family-inclusive and evidence-informed practice.
WREN (Womens Recovery Network): A statewide trauma-informed service supporting women (and those who identify as women) through inpatient and Hospital in the Home models. WREN includes specialty programs for Eating Disorders and Perinatal Mental Health.
Ngamai Wilam: A 12-bed residential eating disorder program built through extensive co-design with people with lived and living experience and their families and carers fostering connection accountability and wellbeing through recovery-oriented family-inclusive practice.
Our preferred candidate will demonstrate:
Lived Experience (Carer/Family): Personal experience in a caring or supportive role for someone experiencing mental ill-health or eating disorders and the ability to purposefully use that experience in a professional context.
Qualifications (or commitment to obtain within 12 months):
Certificate IV in Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health; or
Intentional Peer Support (IPS) 5-day (and/or Advanced) training.
Practice Leadership: Experience contributing to governance co-producing education mentoring or supervising lived experience workers and leading service improvement initiatives.
Partnership & Communication: Ability to work collaboratively with carers consumers multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to enhance family-inclusive practice.

Compliance: Australian working rights; current Working with Children Check; willingness to undergo a Background Check; current Influenza vaccination (or willingness to obtain).
