Your role

CBC Calgary is looking for an experienced News Editor/Presenter to lead our weekend morning radio newscasts. This position is part-time working three days a week. You will present the news Saturday and Sunday morning and be assigned to other duties on Monday.

As the weekend newsreader you play an integral editorial and leadership role in preparing and presenting our weekend news. Youre Albertas voice on weekend mornings keeping our audience informed about whats happening in their province. You must be an exceptional journalist and thrive in a fast-paced high-pressure environment. You understand the diverse and changing landscape in Alberta and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. Youre also comfortable adapting and shifting weekend plans in order to react to breaking or developing news.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Excellent journalistic decision-making skills.

  • Excellent audio presentation skills and an engaging on-air presence.

  • Ability to read the news on air and present material with credibility and authority in a range of situations including live events and breaking news.

  • Ability to self-operate a studio audio board during a live newscast.

  • Ability to quickly cut audio clips from a variety of audio and video sources.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines reacting quickly to changing priorities and breaking news.

  • Strong writing and script-editing skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Creative flexible and self-motivated.

  • Journalism degree or equivalent preferred.

  • Knowledge of Alberta would be an asset

  • Four years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry preferred.

  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts late finishes and weekends.
