About the Role
NAAJAs Civil Law Section is busy diverse and committed to achieving justice for Aboriginal people in areas such as police accountability child protection tenancy discrimination social security and victims of crime assistance.
As a Client Service Officer (CSO) you will be the first point of contact for many clients and play a vital role in helping them navigate their legal matters. You will support lawyers engage directly with clients and help deliver outreach services to remote communities. Some overnight travel will be required.
What Youll Be Doing
- Engaging with and supporting clients in a culturally respectful way in person and by phone
- Assisting communication between clients and lawyers and referring clients to other services where appropriate
- Coordinating remote legal clinics including travel scheduling and logistics
- Maintaining accurate client records using NAAJAs client management systems
- Preparing documents and providing administrative support to lawyers
- Building networks with community organisations and other agencies
- Working collaboratively as part of a small dedicated team
What Youll Bring
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities (highly regarded)
- Previous office experience including Microsoft Office data entry and file management
- Commitment to delivering high-quality client-focused service
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines
- Current drivers licence
- Ability to obtain a Working With Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and clear criminal history check
Strong preference will be given to Aboriginal applicants or candidates with demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people in the NT.
