Job Summary

Workweek

Up to 10 - 20 Hours per Week Schedule will vary depending on students class schedule. Library Hours: 8am - 7pm.

Position Summary

The Student Library Assistant plays a key role in providing front-line customer service within the library. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting students and visitors answering phone calls and responding to general inquiries with professionalism and courtesy. The assistant also helps fellow students locate resources supports library staff with day-to-day tasks and contributes to a welcoming and efficient environment. This position is ideal for students looking to build communication and teamwork skills in a supportive service-focused setting.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Customer Service
  • Greeting all Library patrons
  • Answering and transferring phone calls as appropriate
  • Assist students with printing or refer them to the IT Help Desk as appropriate
  • Refer students to Reference Librarian as needed or assist them with making a research appointment
  • Development of appropriate education plans to establish academic and career goals and advise students on selection of courses

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to sit walk and stand up to 4 hours
  • Ability to use office equipment (fax copier etc)
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

UPON HIRE:
  • Background Check
  • Completion of New Employee Training
  • Must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above (if first semester student GPA requirement is waived)
  • If student qualifies for Federal Work Study the student will be hired as a Federal Work Study employee to utilize these funds.
