About the Faculty of Business Communication Studies and Aviation

The Faculty of Business Communications Studies and Aviation has a student body of approximately 3899 students and is composed of the Bissett School of Business the School of Communication Studies and the Aviation program with a flight school. The School of Business hosts four departments: General Management & Human Resources Accounting & Finance International Business & Supply Chain Management and Entrepreneurship Marketing & Social Innovation. The School of Communication Studies consists of four majors: Journalism and Digital Media Broadcast Media Studies Information Design and Public Relations.

The Bissett School of Business is an accredited member of EFMD a global non-profit membership-driven organization dedicated to management development.

About the Department of Accounting and Finance

The Department of Accounting and Finance offers Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees in both Accounting and Finance. The BBA - Finance major offers students three concentration choices: Financial Analysis Financial Services and Investment Fund Management. Students completing the Financial Analysis concentration are well prepared to pursue a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation upon graduation. After completing all courses in the Financial Services concentration students are prepared to write the examinations leading to the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.

About the Role

The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Finance at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will commence on July 01 2026. This position will be hired into the Teaching-Scholarship-Service (TSS) work pattern. The TSS work pattern focuses on teaching (the equivalent of six (6) three-hour classes per academic year) conducting research and providing service at the Department Faculty and/or University levels. The selected candidate will teach introductory and advanced level courses such as but not limited to: introduction to finance financial risk management insurance and risk management estate planning and income tax planning. We welcome applications from candidates with a range of research interests in finance including but not limited to: specialized areas in finance emerging issues in finance scholarly investigation of pedagogies in finance education and community-engaged finance research.

The successful candidate will become an integral member of our finance team and can expect to contribute meaningfully to departmental priorities and activities. For example the selected candidate will be encouraged to actively liaise with industry partners or professional associations on behalf of the Department and the Bissett School of Business.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required:

  • A PhD in Financeor close to completion of PhD in Finance (ABD) from an accredited post-secondary institution (AACSB EQUIS EFMD or equivalent)
  • A current active research program in finance
  • Proficiency in teaching at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Strong interpersonal presentation and communication skills
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have a willingness to teach financial risk management insurance and risk management estate planning and/or income tax planning.

Additionally the successful candidate may have some of the following attributes:

  • Professional experience in a financial institution
  • A professional Finance designation such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) or Personal Financial Planner (PFP).
  • A willingness to mentor and supervise students in the BBA honours thesis program the student investment fund and/or student case competitions.
