Job Summary

Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsins Department ofOrthopaedic Surgery Divison of Total Jointsis seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This position is located at ourSpringdale and Mequon Clinics.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients in the Orthopaedic Surgery Total Joint Program. Provides outpatient care as well as assistants in the OR and attends In-patient rounding as required.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team as needed in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with orthopaedic health conditions.
  • Documents accurate and timely progress notes procedure notes and admission and transfer orders.
  • Order perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests and appropriately communicate and document information.
  • Facilitates and communicates with patient family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements including CMS and the Joint Commission.
  • Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients being treated in the Total Joint Program through participation in the development of quality indicators.
  • Acquires information and best practices on the most current development and trends in the NP/PA field through educational programs in-services conferences literature and professional associations.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams identifies normal and abnormal findings including physical cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates counsels and assists patients and families regarding current health problems health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Work Schedule: 1.0 FTE role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.

Advanced Practice Nurse: Masters Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelors Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

  • Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
  • Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
