Job Summary
Overview:
Xavier University is seeking an experienced Roads and Grounds leader. This leader will be Responsible for the overall appearance and care of 200 acres of urban University grounds. This care covers lawn spaces landscaping tree maintenance turf maintenance recreational and intercollegiate field preparation and snow removal from roads walks and parking lots as well as the management of the fleet of vehicles and equipment used in the execution of this work.
Responsibilities:
Hands-On Maintenance: Perform and oversee grounds maintenance. Responsible for managing coordinating directing and supervising a grounds staff of 8 full time and 4-8 part time employees ensuring high standards of workmanship.
Leadership and Oversight: Provide leadership and oversight to a team horticulturists groundskeepers and specialty contractors. Lead by example working alongside the team to complete tasks. Serves as liaison with campus leaders to coordinate the work in their respective areas. Deliver instruction and training of employees in equipment usage and safety. The position also conducts studies and makes recommendations regarding new grounds equipment and operational procedures. Assist with the management of the financial budget for the grounds department.
Daily Planning and Scheduling: Plan and schedule daily assignments and workflow including maintenance contractors when necessary. Serve as the primary contact for daily scheduling of grounds personnel including emergencies and off-standard situations.
Inclement Weather & Event Planning: This position has oversight of the University after-hours and regular hours snow removal and inclement weather response. The Grounds Superintendent is also an active participant in key university activities such as commencement Cintas events and opening of school. Available on a 24/7 on-call basis.
Team Development: Enhance consistency communication efficiency and the development of a specialized maintenance and operations team through hands-on involvement and mentorship.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree (preferred)
- Experience with fleet management.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience
- Valid drivers license
