Outreach Case Worker Specialist Homelessness Service- Newcastle & Lower Hunter Based Role
- Full-time Contract Leave Cover until 30/06/2026
- This role is paid under the SCHADS award - Level 4
The Opportunity:
The Case Worker will support Samaritans Specialist Homelessness Service across the Lower Hunter & Newcastle assisting young people (12-24) at various stages of securing safe stable housing.
Key responsibilities include intake needs assessment individual planning and referrals to wraparound services. The role primarily involves outreach casework alongside crisis accommodation support and preventative programs to help young people sustain tenancies.

About you:
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate NSW drivers Licence National Criminal History Check Working with Children Check Comprehensively insured motor vehicle.
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work Community Services/Welfare Youth Work or related disciplines OR related experience with extensive background in working with men women and families with mental health drug and alcohol issues and domestic violence.
- Experience in Case Management practice - SHS case work highly desirable. Strengths-based and trauma informed care approach in supporting young people experiencing disadvantage
- Demonstrated strong conflict resolution skills
- Advanced understanding of the complex needs of young people and families facing homelessness and the provision of case work for these groups.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to develop rapport and communicate effectively with men women and families to listen to them
- To assist them to make informed decisions and develop skills for independent living within the community
- Demonstrated understanding of the complex needs of men women and families facing homelessness and domestic violence
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to maintain confidentiality and accountability including client records team and organisational discussions
- Ability to operate with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Understanding of and commitment to the principles of Child Protection WH&S cultural diversity and ethical practice
- Proven ability to effectively and proactively network and liaise with government and non-government service providers
