The Child Mind Institute offers a one-year professional training program within our Mood Disorders Center designed to prepare candidates for a successful career in child and adolescent psychology. The fellowship will begin as early as July 2026. Consideration will also be given to candidates who complete their pre-doctoral internship by the end of August 2026.
The Mood Disorders Center is one of five programs that comprise our clinical treatment services of the Child Mind Institute. We offer cutting edge evidence-based tailored treatment for children adolescents and young adults suffering from mood disorders and related concerns. These include depressive disorders bipolar disorder disruptive mood dysregulation disorder suicidality and self-harm and emotional dysregulation as well as comorbid problems such as anxiety substance use exposure to trauma and executive functioning deficits. The center includes our comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for children preadolescents adolescents and young adults. Within the DBT program there are offerings of comprehensive DBT for adolescents and young adults Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Children (DBT-C) as well as a preadolescent group-oriented program (Mood Masters). In addition the center provides Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT) a transdiagnostic treatment for disorders of overcontrol for adolescents and young adults. The center is dedicated to giving children and families the tools and support they need to improve their functioning and flourish at home at school and in the community.
Reporting to the Director of the Mood Disorders Center this is an exempt full timehybrid (minimum 4 days in office) position located in our NYC headquarters office.
The centers clinicians are experts in the field in providing comprehensive clinical care. They work intensively with children parents and teachers and utilize a wide range of evidence-based intervention approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Behavioral Activation mindfulness-based interventions Behavioral Parent Training (BPT) tailored for individuals with mood disorders and when needed provide intensive interventions to youth. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in all facets of our multidisciplinary group practice and contribute to a dynamic collaborative team.
Primary Faculty
The Mood Disorders Center staff includes leading clinical psychologists. Center staff regularly collaborates with pediatric neuropsychologists child and adolescent psychiatrists and child and adolescent psychologists and other staff from our multidisciplinary clinical team.
The Mood Disorders Center of the Child Mind Institute offers an extraordinary opportunity for a qualified clinician to receive structured post-doctoral training in a unique innovative academic setting. Training focuses on the accurate diagnosis and use of evidence-based treatment for children adolescents young adults and their families. Clinical training and experiences include conducting semi-structured diagnostic assessments implementing individual family and group interventions (including co-leading DBT groups) participating in intensive interventions didactics comprehensive individual and group supervision providing education in the community and supervising extern cases (with oversight and training in providing supervision). Fellows will receive specialized training in CBT DBT RO-DBT and other evidence-based treatments for mood disorders emotional dysregulation and comorbid disorders. Fellows are strongly encouraged and guided to develop areas of interest and specialization.
As a component of the training experience the post-doctoral fellow will participate in a variety of learning experiences at the Child Mind Institute. Specifically fellows will attend multidisciplinary case conferences clinical meetings with center staff and attend lectures through our Visiting Professor Series consisting of nationally and internationally renowned experts in mental health. Fellows will also be given the opportunity to give presentations at schools and local community organizations. Additionally there will be opportunities to collaborate with website writers on specific topics for the Child Mind Institute website and with other services within the Child Mind Institute.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional clinical skills in the assessment and treatment of children adolescents and young adults including experience with mood disorders and individuals with emotional dysregulation and will have training and prior experience in using CBT and DBT. The position will provide post-doctoral clinical hours and supervision needed for licensure.

Pay Range
The salary range for the position is posted. Factors such as candidates work experience education/training job-related skills internal peer equity as well as market and business considerations affect the salary offered within this addition this salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role) if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
