Job Summary

Introduction

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Marylands $49 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers and insurance professionals compliance with State law. Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers consumers and other public and private entities.


The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency and the review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life health automobile homeowners and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maryland InsuranceAdministrations Market Regulation and Professional Licensing Division isrecruiting for a Market Conduct Examiner I - II Life and Health. The Life andHealth Market Conduct Unit investigates life and health companies for compliancewith Maryland and federal law. This position performs investigations deskaudits and on site examinations of the business practices of HMOs dentalplans nonprofit health service plans as well as life and healthinsurers. Also any other person or entities engaged in the life andhealth insurance industry and regulated by the Maryland InsuranceAdministration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Market Conduct Examiner I

Bachelors degree from an accredited four year college oruniversity.

OR

Four years of experience as an underwriter auditor claimsadjuster insurance producer insurance regulator or other related experience.



Market Conduct ExaminerII

Bachelors degree from an accredited four year college oruniversityandone year of experience as an underwriterclaims adjuster insurance producer insurance regulator or related profession.

OR

Five years of experienceas an underwriter auditor claims adjuster insurance producer insuranceregulator or other relatedexperience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Liberal Arts Degree
