Job Summary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 2: Degree in computer science software engineering engineering information technology or related field and at least 2 years of direct professional Lieu of degree a High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years of direct professional experience in IT may be considered.
  • Level 3: Degree in computer science software engineering engineering information technology or related field and at least 5 years of direct professional Lieu of degree a High School Diploma or equivalent and 11 years of direct professional experience in IT may be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS Azure or GCP) and hybrid networking.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML workflows including model training pipelines and inference deployment.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Strong scripting skills (Bash Python etc.).
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy L clearance which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Experience:

  • Advanced degree in related field.
  • Specialized field skills i.e. Linux Windows IOS
  • Knowledge of GPU management and performance tuning is a plus.
  • Exposure to MLOps tools (e.g. MLflow Kubeflow SageMaker).
  • Exposure to Container Management Systems (e.g. Kubernetes Terraform OpenShift VKS etc.).
  • Experience supporting data scientists or AI research teams.
  • Certifications in Linux cloud or AI/ML technologies.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 2 ($65064 - $133416) / Level 3 ($77628 - $159228). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit stoop kneel bend use hands to handle materials manipulate tools keyboard and type reach with hands and arms and operate job related equipment. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Operating System Analyst to work on our Systems Administration team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Education Campus (REC) in Idaho Falls ID with every other Friday off.

In this role you will prepare technical specifications and performance criteria for hardware and software purchases and upgrades. Oversee planning for and installation of hardware. Test and place hardware into production. Select plan test and install operating systems and related support software (e.g. monitoring database communications etc.). You will report to the manager for our Systems Administration team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare technical specifications and performance criteria for hardware and software purchases and upgrades.
  • Facilitate selection planning testing and installation of operating systems and related support software (e.g. monitoring database communications etc.).
  • May assist in procuring technology related equipment/systems hardware and software and supporting vendor contracts.
  • Develop and review operating procedures and train staff on their use.
  • Carry out performance monitoring and capacity planning for the hardware and software.
  • Perform troubleshooting and consultation for users. Provide problem identification and resolution (including documentation) coordinating these activities with management vendors and DOE.
  • Keep management informed of new features/functions of hardware/software and how they can be used to support work objectives.
  • Provide education to other organizations on selected hardware/software operations.
  • Design implement and execute a disaster recovery plan.
  • Ensure work assignment purview is maintained in compliance with federal regulations DOE orders and company procedures.
  • Provide highly technical expertise to formulate strategies to identify new and inventive ways of using technology to enhance and streamline work in the area of assignment.
  • May design and maintain a 5-year plan for technology initiatives and assist with the forecasting of future INL budget needs.
