The primary functions of an Underground Construction Technician are to install expand and maintain ALLOs underground conduit system safely and efficiently. While this position is in a home market some travel up to 50% might be required based on the needs and schedule of construction. Duties for this position can be physically demanding and require working in an outdoor construction setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare trench areas for the installation of conduit pedestals and other ALLO structures.

  • Install maintain and expand ALLOs conduit network in preparation of underground fiber installation.

  • Use appropriate heavy equipment hand and power tools to properly erect all components necessary for lifting moving and installing underground materials in accordance with the applicable plans specifications codes and industry standards.

  • Construct install and splice varying sizes of conduit in or alongside open trenches in a variety of different working conditions.

  • Troubleshoot all aspects of the conduit network to ensure the successful installation of ALLOs underground fiber-optic network.

  • Accurately locate underground cable and duct using cable locator and other methods

  • Read and understand provided maps to identify the placement of ALLO conduit network.

  • Verify the accuracy and notate any discrepancies relating to re-entry of all existing splice enclosures.

  • Maintain all equipment.

  • Provide a safe working environment by being knowledgeable enforce all state local and company safety procedures.

  • Operate and maintain company-owned vehicles.

  • Inspect vehicle daily and maintain a valid drivers license and commercial license if applicable.

  • Maintain on-call responsibilities relating to emergency restoration as assigned.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

  • While this position is based in a home market some travel up to 50 % may be required based on the needs of the construction schedule.

  • DOT physical required; CDL preferred but not required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience in underground construction and proficiency with operating heavy equipment including trenchers backhoes and skid steers.

  • DOT physical will need to be passed with 30 days of employment

  • CDL preferred but not required.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of ALLOinstallation-constructionprocedures.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and other employees.

  • Ability to work under pressure to successfully complete assigned tasks.

  • Ability to operate company vehicles and maintain a drivers license and commercial license if applicable in good standing.

  • Knowledge of underground utility construction and your assigned geographic region.

  • Basic knowledge of Excel Microsoft Word and GIS.

  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers contractors and company employees.

  • Ability to walk up to 5 miles a day in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to lift to 80 pounds and tobend/stoop/kneel/crawl

  • Flexibility and temperament to adapt to sudden challenges and changing work conditions

  • Willingness to change schedule at short notice to respond to emergency calls.

  • Availability for weekend on-call duty as required

  • Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to read manuals and operate power tools.

  • Able to distinguish colors and markings used to identify different types of materials and to evaluate the quality of completed permitted construction.

  • Able to hear on a telephone or two-way radio or communicate with customers or other employees.

  • Able to converse on the telephone or a two-way radio.

  • Body movement or mobility to climb and maintain balance on uneven ground in and out of trenches as necessary and in different environments.

  • Dexterity to use hand tools and small power tools and to complete necessary forms in a legible manner.
