SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:
The Division of Technology Services is responsible for developing implementing maintaining and supporting multiple mission-critical applications for the Department of Social Services. This position will also assist in enhancing the agencys facilities and network documentation efforts and contribute to a dashboard-driven view of agency assets. This position reports directly to the Senior Network Architect.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Install and implement LAN and wireless infrastructure including switches cabling APs and other components.
- Troubleshoot and resolve moderately complex network issues and implement root cause prevention.
- Monitor and optimize network performance document incident resolution paths.
- Maintain and update SOPs diagrams and technical documentation.
- Assist in hardware/network design configuration and infrastructure planning.
- Maintain a complete and updated network equipment inventory and assist in lifecycle planning.
- Evaluate new networking technologies and provide integration recommendations.
Facilities and Dashboard Support Tasks:
- Collaborate with Facilities and Finance to update the master inventory of DSS locations including:
- Property ownership (county/private/DSS lease)
- Address county square footage network bandwidth.
- Parking details access control systems
- Price/cost DSS positions assigned to facility.
- Work directly with James on floor plan/system inventory updates.
- Add details to office floor plans including workstations and equipment placements.
- Produce and maintain a centralized dashboard (working jointly with relevant DTS staff) that:
- Displays all facility data.
- Provides links to floorplans (PDF/CAD)
- Pulls in DSS personnel count facility components and system data.
- Ensure facility data is well-documented and available in reportable format.
Additional Project-Based Tasks:
- Perform physical audits and cleanup of network closets labeling and organizing to industry standards.
- Update and maintain CAD/PDF as-built network diagrams including cable pathways patch panels and rack layouts for all 68 DSS office locations.
- Conduct on-site cellular signal strength assessments using SIM-based tools to support SD-WAN carrier selection.
Deliverables:
- Network closet audit reports (with before/after photos and patch documentation).
- Up-to-date floorplans with workstations and network layouts for 68 offices.
- Monthly summary of activities hours worked and progress.
- SOPs and documentation for patching and network closet standards.
- Dashboard implementation and associated facility data.
Required Skills:

- Basic to moderately complex knowledge of data network services and data communications.
- Moderately complex to complex knowledge of methods of data network design and equipment configuration requirements.
- Moderately complex to complex knowledge of office automation systems information processing operations fiber optics and microcomputer hardware/software as they relate to the latest trends in data networks connectivity.
- Moderately complex to complex knowledge of computer system analysis design testing debugging and maintenance techniques.
- Ability to assist with presenting technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner.
Preferred Skills:

- Skilled in cable management patch panels fiber optics and troubleshooting in telecom/network closets.
- Ability to produce clear comprehensive documentation of configurations procedures and incident log.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
A bachelors degree in information technology systems computer science or a related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis.
