Senior Equipment Operator - Pavement Operations The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome a Senior Equipment Operator to the Pavement Operations team. As an Equipment Operator for this team you will perform construction maintenance and repair tasks for the pavement operations team. This includes operating heavy equipment such as asphalt rollers pavers and skid steers to repair streets sidewalks and alleys. This team is also responsible for ensuring job site safety conducting equipment inspections and assisting with project planning and coordination.

As a Senior Equipment Operator for Pavement Operations you will:
Operate equipment such as the skid steer motor grader dozer front end loader backhoe paving machine milling machine semi-tractor trailer tanker and various types of compactors; safely and properly operate various hand and power tools
Construct and maintain unpaved/paved roadways using materials such as asphalt crushed concrete class 6 road base and/or geotextiles
Operate a single or tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander; apply chemicals abrasives and other ice control products during snow removal operations
Perform manual labor such as patching potholes dig outs and shoveling asphalt and snow
Read and interpret maps sketches drawings specifications and technical manuals
Maintain log and record books
Schedule coordinate train and direct the work of assigned maintenance staff; serve in a lead worker capacity
Knowledge of traffic laws ordinances and rules involved in heavy equipment operations
Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices related to this type of work
Knowledge of basic principles of civil engineering
Ability to interpret apply and explain pertinent laws rules and regulations as well as City policies and procedures
Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
Five years of full-time professional experience in related field
Possess or obtain upon hire and maintain a valid non-probationary Colorado drivers license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Possess upon hire a Colorado Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges is required for this position
Possess or willing to obtain a Colorado Class A CDL within (12) months of hire not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges is required for this position
