Overview:

As the Building Bridges (B2) Shelter Supervisor you would work directly with individuals experiencing homelessness who need an accepting and compassionate setting to find refuge and access program services as they seek stable housing. B2 is a collaborative homeless resource center located in Ukiah designed to provide housing related services and safe shelter to people experiencing a housing crisis. Services are provided through a partnership of multiple community agencies. B2 operates from a low barrier perspective minimizing barriers to services and shelter. This is a full-time position working in team group and one-on-one settings with peer support counselors support service providers community partners and guests. You would work collaboratively with the Program Manager to support the staff to create a safe welcoming trauma-informed and well-maintained homeless services environment. You would be responsible for scheduling training and coaching staff to build a team that ensures quality services to the guests. You would assist during guest crises and advise staff on addressing escalated situations. You ensure that staff duties and documentation are completed as well as coordinate and facilitate guest activities. This position requires critical thinking and analysis through a racial equity lens as well as demonstration of compassion understanding and empathy while working with diverse staff guests and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Shelter Supervisor is the direct supervisor for up to 15 staff supporting emergency shelter operations and guest services.
  • Responsible for the overall direction coordination and implementation of the shelter in collaboration with the Program Manager and in accordance with the applicable policies and regulations.
  • When necessary manage a case load of guests assisting them with acquiring housing and accessing appropriate resources. Assess guest needs and make appropriate referrals for services. Provide appropriate documentation for each guest and record each referral made.
  • Regularly walk throughout the facility (inside and outside) to monitor for safety and engage with the guests and staff as needed.
  • Communicate with Program Manager as needed and required for assistance direction and to report incidents according to policy.
  • Ensure that all required documentation is completed and entered in the appropriate places in a timely manner. Ensuring information is accurately entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) as required.
  • Ensure the program is compliant with funding objectives and expected outcomes. Conducts implementation of program and agency Policies & Procedures. Assists in developing and analyzing outcome measures.
  • Under the guidance and supervision of the Manager/Director Present to community groups landlords and other stakeholders about the program the agency and specific related topics. Facilitate community forums and training on homelessness.
  • Under the guidance and direction of the Manager interface with the County relevant City bodies law enforcement outside vendors neighbors and others. Consult and collaborate with the Manager Director and leadership as needed

Education:

  • Strongly desired College degree in social work or related field strongly desired.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strongly desired experience working with people experiencing homelessness.
  • Strongly desired Experience and/or training in harm reduction Housing First trauma-informed low barrierservice environments.
  • Preferred people with lived/personal experience with homelessness while asking that people working at the facility not also be current or recent participants in the services provided.
  • Preferred Experience with data management and homeless management information systems.
  • Preferred Experience and professional contacts with homelessness service organizations in Mendocino Lake and/or Humboldt Counties (as relevant to position).
  • Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel PowerPoint Outlook etc.).

Other Qualifications:

  • Must complete a pre-employment physical exam negative TB test clear fingerprint background FBI & Child Abuse Index.
  • Two (2) years driving experience and ability to drive and use personal vehicle for work (including transporting clients) required; must show evidence of current CA drivers license appropriate insurance and vehicle safety inspection.
  • Must be willing to work occasional shifts on a weekend day for special events.
  • You must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and the occasional overnight shift to support the shelter.
  • Must be able to provide 24-hour on-call support to the shelter staff on a rotating schedule with other department leadership.
  • Preferred ability to credential as a Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess a valid CA Drivers License current auto insurance and a clean DMV printout (no more than 3 points).
  • Must pass a clear background check with CACI DOJ & FBI.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified. Training provided during New Hire Orientation
  • TB Exam and Physical at the time of employment.
  • This position requires occasional travel and overnight stays in Mendocino County. The company will cover expenses for meals mileage and hotel accommodations.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes.

  • Driving is a required function of this position. Employees must use a personal vehicle that meet all agency requirements including maintaining liability insurance that meets or exceeds state requirements.
  • Employees are responsible for ensuring the timely renewal of their vehicle insurance policies and providing updated documentation to the agency to remain in good standing and compliant with position requirements.

On-Call Rotation Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the programs on-call rotation.
  • Sign and adhere to the on-call agreement.
  • Develop and maintain the on-call schedule for the program.

Training Provided:

  • RCS provides an in-depth onboarding and training orientation which includes CPR/First Aid Crisis Communication/Pro-ACT Trauma-Informed Care Motivational Interviewing Collaborative Problem Solving introductions to all RCS departments and other valuable trainings.
