  • Position Title: Assistant High School Track and Field Coach (Boys and Girls)
    Location: United Community School District

    Position Purpose

    Under the general supervision of the Activities Director and Head Track and Field Coach the Assistant Track and Field Coach supports the boys and girls track and field programs by assisting with all aspects of practices meets athlete development and team management. The coach will help promote a positive inclusive and competitive environment that supports student-athletes physical mental and academic growth.

    Essential Functions

    • Assists the Head Coach in planning organizing and conducting daily practices and conditioning sessions.

    • Coaches and develops student-athletes in assigned event areas (e.g. sprints distance jumps throws relays etc.).

    • Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience in throwing field events.

    • Supports athletes in goal setting skill development and maintaining academic eligibility.

    • Supervises student-athletes during practices meets travel and other team-related activities to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.

    • Helps manage equipment uniforms and facility setup for practices and meets.

    • Contributes to lineup decisions and meet management as directed by the Head Coach.

    • Promotes teamwork sportsmanship and a positive team culture consistent with district values.

    • Communicates effectively with athletes parents coaching staff and administration.

    • Upholds all school district conference and state athletic policies and regulations.

    • Serves as a positive role model for student-athletes in behavior attitude and sportsmanship.

    Additional Duties

    • Performs other coaching or supervision duties as assigned by the Activities Director or Head Coach.

    • Assists with offseason conditioning or related athletic activities as appropriate.

    Equipment

    Uses standard athletic and office equipment including timing systems computers phones and district-issued technology.

    Travel Requirements

    Travel with the team to practices meets and related events is required.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of track and field techniques rules and safety procedures.

    • Understanding of athletic conditioning injury prevention and event-specific skill development.

    • Strong communication leadership and organizational skills.

    • Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes staff and parents.

    • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive team culture.

    • Ability to model and uphold the standards of sportsmanship and character expected of student-athletes.

    Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards

    • Work is performed in athletic facilities both indoor and outdoor under varying weather conditions.

    • Must be able to demonstrate and instruct physical activities and safely manage athletic environments.

    Qualifications Profile

    Certification/License:

    • Valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement required.

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.

    • Bachelors degree in education kinesiology or related field preferred.

    Experience:

    • Prior coaching experience in track and field preferred.

    • Experience coaching throwing events strongly preferred.
