About us

Southside Racing operates high-class horse racing and training facilities at both Tynong and Cranbourne as well as three 7-day-a-week hospitality and entertainment venues the Cardinia Club Club Officer and Silks Cranbourne. These are a vital part of our business and allow us to provide our members with a wide range of hospitality and entertainment options.

The opportunity

Southside Racing is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individuals to assume the role of Track Assistant at our Pakenham Racecourse . Reporting to the Racecourse manager the role of Track Assistant will be to work to contribute to the performance of our race tracks and be key contributor to the success.

The Track Assistant supports the maintenance and repair of the racetrack surface during training days and race meetings. This includes filling divots using a stomper to restore the track and ensuring the surface is safe and ready for use. The role also involves working in teams during race nights to maintain specific sections of the track.

Responsibilities

  • Repair divots and maintain the track surface during training and race days.
  • Assist in preparing the track for training sessions and race meetings.
  • Work in teams of 23 within designated track sections.
  • Occasionally assist with other duties as required.
  • Comply with OH&S procedures and report unsafe conditions.
  • Use and maintain PPE and safety equipment appropriately.
  • Adhere to Southside Racings internal policies and brand values.
  • Be available across a 7-day operational schedule.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Understanding of service delivery in a racing environment.
  • Flexibility with working hours to suit the racing calendar.
  • Current drivers license or reliable transport to Tynong (no public transport available).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Experience with Thoroughbred horses (desirable)
  • Ability to foster relationships and work well in a team.
