About the job

Advantra is partnering with a global technology services firm in Phoenix to hire a QA Automation Engineer (SDET) to build and maintain test automation frameworks for backend and API systems supporting enterprise-scale applications.

About the role

You will design implement and execute automated tests for backend services and APIs. The role focuses on building scalable frameworks using Karate Java and BDD tools. You will work closely with development teams to ensure robust coverage improve reliability and support continuous integration workflows.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain backend test automation using Java and Karate framework.
Design and execute automated tests for REST APIs and service integrations.
Implement BDD testing using Cucumber and Gherkin.
Collaborate with development teams to define test strategies and coverage goals.
Debug issues across backend and integration layers.
Create reusable test components and utilities for continuous testing.
Work with DevOps teams to integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines.
Maintain test data environment configuration and version control using Git.
Report defects analyze root causes and verify fixes.

Core requirements

6 years of experience in QA automation or SDET roles.
Strong hands-on experience with backend automation using Java.
Proven expertise in Karate framework for API testing.
Proficiency in REST API validation and automation practices.
Working knowledge of BDD tools such as Cucumber and Gherkin.
Understanding of test strategy design and code coverage principles.
Familiarity with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with Git or other version control systems.
Knowledge of multithreading reactive programming or design patterns in Java.
Experience testing applications built on Spring or Spring Boot.

Nice to have

Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
Familiarity with containerized test environments.
Experience in scaling automation frameworks across large systems.
Understanding of performance and load testing tools.
Background in working with enterprise financial or payment systems.
