GENERAL PURPOSE

Needing to fill morning and day shifts between 5 am - 3 pm

Head Lifeguards perform first-line supervision of lifeguards poolside duties and water safety responsibilities to ensure safe use of aquatic facilities. Head Lifeguards monitor water activities to prevent accidents or injury to patrons and ensure a positive recreation experience. Head Lifeguards assume responsibility for pool operations and proactively enforce pool and facility rules employ superior customer service and train lifeguards.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Head Lifeguards work under the general direction of the Aquatics Coordinator and the specific direction of the Aquatic Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Head Lifeguards provide specific supervision of all lifeguards concession and rockwall.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Lifeguarding assisting in first aid and rescues of pool patrons and associated reports.
  2. Monitor and maintain pool area restrooms and locker rooms including vacuuming backwashing and clean-up of fecal/vomit accidents.
  3. Supervise and train lifeguard staff in a positive and proactive manner seek to break up the monotony of lifeguard shifts to allow them to be successful in their duties and thank staff members for good performance and encourage superior level of work.
  4. Assist in handling patrons complaints and seek immediate positive resolution while maintaining safety requirements and pool rules. Head Lifeguards immediately address issues relating to patron comfort including air and water temperature and adequate seating.
  5. Determine appropriate rotation of lifeguards to ensure appropriate patron surveillance.
  6. Perform opening and closing procedures ensure all systems are properly functioning secure doors and other access points and ensure that shift duties including cleaning responsibilities are completed.
  7. Test pool chemicals at least once during each shift.
  8. Enforce all facility rules using preventative communication.
  9. Identify potential hazards correct hazards when possible and notify the Aquatic Supervisor and/or Aquatics Coordinator.
  10. Responsible for taking the lead in all aquatic emergencies and assisting in emergencies throughout the facility.
  11. Be on-time for all shifts with a swimming suit uniform whistle and safety pack.
  12. Attend monthly in-service training.
  13. Assist patrons in using the ADA Chairlifts.
  14. Take hourly swimmer counts.
  15. Provide superior customer service to all facility guests and proactive positive training to all staff members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education and Experience:
  2. Any combination of training and experience which will indicate possession of the skills knowledge and abilities listed below.
  3. Minimum of 2 years Lifeguard Experience Preferred.
  4. Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of aquatics facility operation along with knowledge of facility rules and regulations. Staff members must be able to communicate both orally and written work effectively and efficiently in emergency situations be courteous to fellow employees and pool patrons and instruct other lifeguards on lifeguarding procedures and pool policies and procedures.

  1. Special Qualifications:

Applicants must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguarding CPR and First Aid certifications AND must be able to demonstrate mastery of CPR and rescue skills at the time of interview. Applicants must be 17 years old.

Applicants must be available for a variety of shifts including early morning or afternoon shifts 5am-3pm.

  1. Work Environment:

Incumbent of the position employee performs in a typical pool setting with appropriate climate controls and typical settings associated with indoor/outdoor recreation environment. OSHA related hazards may be encountered under controlled conditions. Tasks require a variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strain such as walking standing stooping sitting reaching and lifting. Talking hearing and seeing are essential to performance of daily tasks. Common eye hand finger dexterity needed in performance of duties. Mental application utilizes memory for details verbal instructions emotional stability discriminative thinking and creative problem solving.

As per Washington City policy and/or procedures a background check and drug screening evaluation will be required for potential new hire candidates prior to an offer of employment. I understand that if I am under the age of 18 I must have my parent or my legal guardian grant their permission for the background check and drug screening test to be performed.
