Job Summary

Join the Community Recreation and Culture team as an Aquatic Service Person/ Labourer 1 and play a key role in ensuring our aquatic facilities are safe healthy and at their best for our citizens to enjoy.
As an Aquatic Service Person/ Labourer 1 you will be responsible for maintaining facility cleanliness and safe operation at various Leisure and Recreation Centres. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful inclusive and service-minded style.

What you will do:

  • Perform general janitorial work which involves cleaning the pool area staff areas floors walls windows and fixtures vacuuming the pools and ensuring the washrooms are clean and disinfected
  • Pick up debris around pool areas
  • Maintain pool filtration systems
  • Monitor and balance pool water chemistry and perform periodic scheduled readings
  • Perform periodic security checks and report any security problems
  • Assist in facility maintenance at the end of the day as they clear the facility of customers
  • Complete routine inspections and maintenance reports as required
  • Provide exterior site maintenance including picking up garbage and changing garbage bags as well as snow removal and ice clearing in the winter
  • Complete in-house training as required
  • Use of respiratory protection including Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is required for some duties included in this position
  • Compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement for these positions
  • Perform other related duties as required

  • Completion of 10th grade or equivalent

  • Minimal swimming ability (able to swim at least one length of a pool)

Assets:

  • Experience in custodial work pool maintenance service work or related work experience

  • Level 1 Swimming Pool Operators Certificate

Skills required for success:

  • Ability to lift objects up to 20 lbs. is required as part of the normal duties

  • Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions along with a working knowledge of computers

  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the standard methods material and equipment employed in the care and maintenance of swimming pools and related facilities

  • Demonstrated decision making prioritization and time management skills

    • Current Intermediate First Aid CPR/AED certificates are a condition of employment. Successful candidates will be required to obtain these certifications upon commencing in the position

    Hours of work: 40 hours per week for permanent full-time; 30 hours per week for permanent part-time.

    This position requires working independently during night shifts. A typical shift could be from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on a rotating schedule with weekend availability required.

    Salary: $23.416 - $32.470 (Hourly); $48 892.61 - $67 797.36 (Annually)
