Why Your Role Matters:

The Specialist Critical Infrastructure plays a key role in managing operating and supporting UNSWs IT Managed Systems environment. Youll work across data centre server and network infrastructureincluding Microsoft Linux and virtual environments - ensuring high availability and performance for staff students and alumni.

About the Role
Working within UNSW IT and alongside Faculties and Divisions youll:

  • Install configure and maintain servers storage and data centre hardware
  • Monitor system performance and respond to incidents to minimise downtime
  • Manage asset inventory warranties and vendor support
  • Support infrastructure design implementation and documentation for capital projects
  • Oversee contractor work to ensure compliance with UNSW and industry standards
  • Collaborate with IT Facilities and vendors to align delivery with operational needs
  • Contribute to the development of infrastructure standards and continuous improvement

This role reports to the Team Leader includes participation in the on-call roster and may require some after-hours work.

Who You Are
Youre an experienced IT infrastructure professional with a background in hardware operations data centres and enterprise networking. With a degree in IT Computer Engineering or a related field (and certifications such as CompTIA Server or CCNA an advantage) you bring hands-on expertise across server storage and network systems.

You have strong technical and troubleshooting skills a solid grasp of structured cabling and data centre operations and proficiency with monitoring and diagnostic tools. You communicate clearly collaborate effectively and can work independently to solve complex problems.

Experience with IT passive infrastructure design reading technical drawings or ITIL practices will be highly regarded.
