Whats the job
The Head of Enterprise Data and Governance is a senior data leadership role responsible for developing operationalising and evolving the data architecture platform and governance capabilities for Torrens. This role ensures that ANZ has a scalable secure and trusted data foundation that aligns with enterprise strategy while enabling analytics product and technology teams to deliver business value.

Principal Accountabilities are (but not limited to):

Data Platform Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and maintain the architectural vision for Torrens cloud-native data platform (GCP-based) aligned with enterprise standards

Data Governance & Quality Enablement

  • Develop and enforce a comprehensive data governance framework including policies standards and procedures for data quality security and compliance.

Stakeholder Leadership & Enablement

  • Partner with Knowledge & Insights (Analytics) IT application teams business leaders at Torrens to align platform and governance priorities

Capability Development & Future Team Growth

  • Define the long-term vision for a scalable Enterprise Data and Governance function at Torrens

Who you are:

Experience

  • 8 years of data engineering experience including cloud-native architecture

  • 3 years delivering GCP-based solutions (BigQuery Cloud Composer/Airflow Cloud Run/Cloud Functions Cloud Spanner Google Pub/Sub DataFlow etc.)

  • 5 years of experience in GCP database services including Cloud SQL (for relational databases like MySQL PostgreSQL) and Bigtable (for NoSQL workloads)

  • 3 years of experience in Google Cloud Data Catalog for metadata management data discovery and governance.

  • 3 years of experience in GCPs AI/ML services such as Vertex AI for building integrating with BigQuery ML deploying and managing machine learning models.

  • 3 years of experience in GCP infrastructure management using Cloud Deployment Manager or Terraform for infrastructure-as-code Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)

  • 3 years project or delivery management experience across complex programs

  • Strong engineering experience (Python SQL)

  • Experience with CI/CD processes and tools to automate delivery pipelines including the implementation of infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.

Skills:

  • Strong balance of technical leadership and project delivery capability

  • Excellent stakeholder communication (technical & non-technical)

  • Skilled in managing cross-functional delivery teams and timelines

  • Strong knowledge of data lifecycle lineage metadata and access control

  • Proven ability to influence align and deliver across geographically distributed teams

  • Deep exposure to data governance privacy and quality assurance
