Description

The Assistant Director of Leadership reports to the Director of Life Design Leadership and Engagement and is responsible for the implementation of Learning to Lead Leadership Oxford and leadership development and education programs supported by the Student Involvement Leadership and Transitions team. They also collaborate on implementing the Presidents Institute a required training for all student organization presidents.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Coordinates student activities programs and assists with administrative and group advisement functions. Meets with and supports various student groups.
  • Advises student program members and leaders regarding program planning and development group process concerns leadership and personal development budgets state law University policy and legal issues.
  • Plans and attends weekly meetings held by various programs. Plans conducts and supervises special events. Evaluates the success of various programs groups functions and special events. Provides input into departmental goals and objectives.
  • Compiles edits and produces publications brochures and newsletters. Maintains required records and documentation.
  • Prepares various operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Supervises student staff by orienting training and providing performance feedback on an on-going basis.
  • Develops and implements training and development programs for student leaders. Provides informal counseling on an on-going basis. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A masters degree in student personnel higher education administration counseling or a related field.

Essential Functions of the Position:
Leadership Course Design & Instructional Oversight (20%)

  • Oversees the Learning to Lead course series including:
  • Curriculum development and implementation for Learning to Lead 100 (first-year seminar) and Learning to Lead 200/201E (student facilitator development)
  • Faculty/staff recruitment and training
  • Section planning enrollment and course management
  • One-on-one student support and course evaluation

Student Leadership Development & Training (15%)

  • Co-coordinates Presidents Institute and supports student leaders through formal and informal training
  • Collaborates across departments to design and implement student leadership education programs
  • Supports annual Leadership Oxford (LO) retreat and other initiatives that build leadership capacity among students

Programmatic Event Support & Engagement Initiatives (15%)

  • Provides planning and support for office-wide events including:
  • New Student Orientation (e.g. Move-In Day OxOlympics Candlelight Procession)
  • Community events such as Involvement Fair Family Weekend Spring Start Orientation Sophomore Banquet Gold & Blue Awards and OSC Community Hour programs

Pre-Orientation Program Management (10%)

  • Leads Ignite Oxford Pre-Orientation program including:
  • Full-cycle program planning and assessment
  • Recruitment training and supervision of student leaders
  • Communication and engagement with incoming students and families

Budget Oversight & Resource Management (10%)

  • Manages annual budgets for assigned programs ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with program goals

Assessment & Continuous Improvement (10%)

  • Evaluates the success and impact of programs and events
  • Uses assessment data to make informed improvements to programming and curriculum
  • Maintains documentation and records to track program outcomes

Student Advising & Support (10%)

  • Provides informal student counseling and mentorship on an ongoing basis serving as a key resource for leadership development and transition support

Campus Collaboration & Representation (5%)

  • Represents the office on departmental divisional and university-wide committees
  • Works cross-functionally to promote shared leadership values and student success

Administrative Coordination & Participation in Unit Operations (5%)

  • Participates in bi-weekly staff meetings and monthly Campus Life meetings
  • Attends regular one-on-one meetings with supervisor
  • Performs other administrative or operational tasks as assigned

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
