The Project Engineer Mechanical supports the planning coordination and execution of mechanical engineering and construction activities for offshore EPC projects. This role ensures that project deliverables covering design procurement fabrication installation and commissioning meet technical specifications client standards and project schedules.
The Project Engineer acts as the focal point between engineering disciplines procurement construction and commissioning teams ensuring mechanical systems (static and rotating equipment piping and structural supports) are delivered safely on time and within budget.
Reports to: Senior Project Engineer / Project Manager
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Coordination
- Coordinate all mechanical engineering activities between design offices fabrication yards vendors and offshore teams.
- Review engineering deliverables (GA drawings MTOs datasheets specifications) for mechanical equipment and piping systems.
- Monitor progress of mechanical packages and report status against project schedule and milestones.
- Ensure timely resolution of technical queries (TQs) deviations and field engineering issues.
- Assist in the preparation of project execution plans method statements and material requisitions.
2. Technical Oversight
- Provide mechanical engineering input during design development material selection and construction planning.
- Ensure compliance with client specifications (QatarEnergy ADNOC or ARAMCO) and international standards (API ASME ASTM ISO).
- Review vendor documents for pumps compressors valves heat exchangers and piping components.
- Support mechanical completion and pre-commissioning activities including punch list clearance and system handover.
3. Interface & Coordination
- Interface with fabrication QA/QC HSE and commissioning teams for mechanical installation and testing.
- Liaise with procurement to ensure timely delivery of long-lead items and critical spares.
- Coordinate with offshore construction teams for installation readiness and field modifications.
- Participate in progress review meetings constructability reviews and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR).
4. Construction & Offshore Support
- Review and approve mechanical work packs test packages and method statements.
- Ensure offshore readiness of materials tools and manpower for installation campaigns.
- Provide technical support during fabrication load-out and offshore hook-up phases.
- Support inspection and testing activities such as hydrotesting alignment and mechanical completion walkdowns.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily/weekly progress reports engineering status updates and material tracking logs.
- Maintain accurate records of mechanical drawings specifications and changes.
- Contribute to preparation of project close-out and handover documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of EPC project experience with at least 4 years in offshore environments (platforms jackets topsides or subsea).
- Strong technical knowledge of static and rotating equipment piping systems valves and mechanical interfaces.
- Familiar with project engineering tools such as SmartPlant AutoCAD and Aconex.
- Understanding of fabrication installation and commissioning processes for offshore facilities.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Certifications
- Offshore Survival & H2S (BOSIET/HUET).
- PMP or equivalent project management certification (advantageous).
- ISO 9001:2015 awareness certification.
- API/ASME mechanical codes training (preferred).
