Position Summary:
The School of Communication and Multimedia Studies in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for one tenure-track assistant professor in digital media production to begin August 2026. The primary location is the Ft. Lauderdale campus with occasional travel to the Boca Raton campus.
Ideal candidates should have research and teaching strengths in either of the following areas:
Digital Cinema and Filmmaking: Visualization Storyboarding Compositing Digital filmmaking Sound design Digital post-production and Digital film production.
Videogame and Interactive Design: Game design 3D environments Character design Modeling texturing rigging Extended Realities (VR AR MR) Game engines (e.g. Unreal Unity) Interactive art & performance (TouchDesigner vvvv Resolume Arena Processing p5 Python MaxMSP PureData Automatonism etc.) AI machine learning large datasets and related technologies.

- Will broadly teach digital media production courses across the undergraduate curriculum in the Film & Media degree sequence as well as in the graduate degree programs.
- Maintain a productive scholarly/research agendas in line with an institution that has recently achieved R1 status and ranking among the top 100 universities in the nation.
- Responsible for teaching assignment of 3/2 research and service.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned an MFA or PhD (ABD) in digital immersive or interactive film/media or a closely related field is required by the effective date of employment August 2026 from an accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a high level of technical competency to participate in interdisciplinary collaborations with visual art architecture computer science engineering and associated commercial industries. Competence in industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite Autodesk Final Cut Pro DaVinci Resolve Unity Unreal etc. is preferred. Knowledge of film and media history theory and analysis is also expected. Additionally skill in 3D printing virtual production motion capture or procedural audio is desirable.
