This is a 10-month185-day/renewable position that includes benefits of paid medical and leave.

TITLE: Career and Technical Teacher (CTE) Construction Woodworking & Industrial Arts Siuslaw Middle & High School 1.0 FTE

PRIMARY FUNCTION:The Construction Woodworking & Industrial Arts Teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student achievement and growth are primarily dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. The position is demanding varied and complex. The teacher must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies.

RESPONSIBLE TO:Building Principal at Middle and High School.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to obtain an Oregon Teaching Certificate and CTE endorsement valid for

    assignment.

  • Familiarity and relatable work experience in the Construction and Industrial Arts Field.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry related experience
  • Current General Contractors License in Oregon or other state (eligible for license in OR).
  • Residential/commercial construction experience.
  • Experience with building codes and permitting process.
  • Familiarity with construction techniques tools and ability to teach those skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
  • Comply with applicable District state local and federal laws rules and regulations.
  • Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator.
  • Comply with OAR through OAR and OAR .
  • Provide supportive and effective classroom management for students.
  • Provide a safe and orderly environment for students.
  • Plan effective and appropriate daily lessons and unit plans incorporating industry and CTE standards as well as SHS school wide initiatives (i.e. reading and writing across the curriculum).
  • Develop implement and maintain a system to track and maintain tools and equipment (loss prevention and continued maintenance).
  • Maintain a budget with a positive balance and maintain and turn in all associated records in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with CTE program requirements and documentation.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Collaborate with other CTE instructors.
  • Attend regional state and national student competitions.
  • Be a reflective practitioner committed to continuous improvement.
  • Assesses keeps track of and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments.
  • Updates gradebook regularly and keeps website up to date.
  • Uses a grading system that is consistent fair and supportable.
  • Selects and requisitions the required supplies and equipment through the proper school and department channels.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Participates cooperatively on school area and District-wide activities including development of planned course statements tests and textbook adoptions. Responds in a cooperative and positive manner to supervision.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with parents classified staff licensed staff and support personnel to establish a positive work environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned duties i.e. hallway supervision lunch count bus duty etc.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and all relevant meetings.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all student data and information.
  • Achieves professional growth through consultation with District support staff and attendance at building and District in-service meetings.
  • Follows specified standards policies and procedures of the department the building and District.
  • Provide instruction at the middle school level in areas of woodworking and industrial arts.
  • Provide instruction at the high school level in areas of residential and commercial construction woodworking and industrial arts.
  • Primary program content as it relates to carpentry roofing HVAC plumbing basic electrical theory planning and site preparation for new home construction.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and implement a hands-on approach to critical thinking and problem solving skills needed for current and future construction industry employment standards.
  • Provide instruction in teamwork communications problem solving decision making and computer technology which relates to work place and higher education skills needed in the construction industry.
  • Work with staff and post-secondary institutions to develop and maintain career pathways which prepare students for apprenticeship licensure community college or university degree programs in the construction trades areas.
  • Work with employers and community groups to promote and advance technical skills.
  • Supervise students in the classroom laboratory field and internship settings as they learn and practice skills of the construction trades.
  • Instruct students in the safe and professional conduct in and around construction job sites.
  • Instruct students in the basics of costing a job whether new construction or remodel.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Maintains satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to organize and maintain efficient time schedule.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff students and the public.
  • Good communication organization and computer skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task except for temporary disability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is frequently required to stand and stoop kneel crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
