Job Summary

Job Summary:

The Surgical Technician assists in surgical procedures within a hospital setting. This role involves preparing the operating room ensuring equipment is sterile and functional assisting surgeons during procedures and maintaining a safe and efficient surgical environment. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience the ability to work weekends and take on-call shifts and the willingness to float within the scope of practice.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare the operating room with necessary instruments and equipment.
- Ensure all surgical instruments are sterile and in working order.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
- Monitor patients vital signs during procedures.
- Handle specimens according to established protocols.
- Clean and restock the operating room after procedures.
- Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs.
- Participate in emergency management including fire safety.
- Adhere to aseptic techniques isolation precautions radiation safety sharps safety specimen handling/labeling and universal protocol (time out) procedures.
Required Skills & Certifications:

- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
- BLS certification.
- Experience in General OR Teaching Hospital and Trauma settings.
- Proficiency in Direct Laryngoscopy Radial neck dissection Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy Tracheostomy.
- Proficiency in Colonoscopy EGD Peg tube placement/exchange.
- Proficiency in Appendectomy Cholecystectomy Colon resection - Open/LAP Hernia repair inguinal/umbilical Laparoscopic assisted procedures Mastectomy Thyroidectomy partial/total.
- Proficiency in Abdominal hysterectomy Anterior/Posterior repair Bilateral tubal ligation Dilation & Curettage Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures Vaginal Hysterectomy.
- Proficiency in Craniotomy Laminectomy/discectomy Lumbar fusion.
- Proficiency in Repair of fractured jaws mandibular and zygomatic.
- Proficiency in Arthroscopy Arthrotomy Carpal tunnel release Closed/Open reduction of fractures Laminectomy/discectomy.
- Proficiency in Free Flap - Microvascular.
- Proficiency in Amputations Gunshot/stab wounds MVA (multiple injuries).
- Proficiency in Cystoscopy Laparoscopic assisted cases Nephrectomy Ureteroscopy.
- Experience with Drills (multiple types) Electrosurgical units Fiber optic light sources/cords.
- Knowledge of Aseptic Technique Isolation Precautions Radiation Safety Sharps Safety Specimen Handling/Labeling Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:

- CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) certification.
- Teaching Hospital Experience.
- Trauma Level I Experience.
Special Considerations:

- Must be in IL 3 business days prior to compliance HDD in order to meet fingerprinting requirements.
- Weekends are required once a month with a total of 16 hours of obligation.
- On-call is required as needed for the department.
- Clinician will float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Discuss RTO with manager - all time off must be reviewed and approved by manager.
