The Paint / Body Worker (Body Shop) position is responsible for finishing cabs and parts to Spartans quality standards prior to painting.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repair defects
  • Perform presanding body filler roll prime sanding and metal finishing as needed
  • Lead / perform lean events
  • Learn and retain skills and practices needed to complete duties in assigned area
  • Wear air or form fitting respirators for extended amounts of time
  • Work off ground-level on ladders and lifts as needed
  • Read and follow detailed operator instructions as required by a particular area
  • Understand and be able to articulate the body shop and paint processes
  • Self-check work and inspect prior processes
  • Use basic hand electric cordless and pneumatic tools as required
  • Meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Initiate process improvements
  • Support 5S in work area
  • Communicate with manufacturing and other cross-functional teams (engineering materials purchasing sales etcetera) to resolve issues
  • Work in close proximity with customer as needed
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent attendance
  • Positive attitude
  • Strong and consistent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
  • Team oriented
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • No critical shortcomings on last performance review
  • 3 years of body shop experience
  • Strong knowledge of metail finishing
  • Working knowledge of application of fillers including polyester fillers putties and primers
  • Demonstrate high quality body work
  • Able to:
    • Tolerate very high heat temperatures
    • Be exposed to high dust & chemicals
    • Work overtime on short notice
  • Willing to:
    • Improve self / area / company (including pursuing additional training if needed)
    • Develop a working knowledge of Spartans systems (example: AS/400)
