Job Summary

Position Summary
The purpose of the Global Engagement Office ( GEO ) is to coordinate and develop the Universitys international activities and ensure that the University achieves its internationalization goals. Specific activities include: developing and managing the Study Abroad and Exchange programs; managing the faculty-led programs; recruitment advising and retention of international students and visiting scholars; providing support services including immigration and practical training placement for international (F1) and exchange students (J1) and visiting scholars; securing external funding for development projects that support the Universitys international goals; developing and managing outreach programs to the local schools businesses and community. GEO serves as the liaison for the Interlink Language Programs. The responsibilities of the Assistant Director will be to support the Director for International Student & Scholar Services ( ISSS ) in the administration and expansion of UNCGs International Student & Scholar Services programs. The person in this position will be responsible for the incoming exchange program as well as advising degree seeking students on F1 visas but may at any point be asked to support all aspects of education abroad efforts. Towards this goal this position will be working with all levels of administrative units and faculty members. While reporting directly to the Director of ISSS the Assistant Director will also work with and be advised by the Associate Provost for Global Engagement as needed. Overview of duties encompassed in this role include: advising students who are planning to study at UNCG on semester- or year-long study abroad programs or to seek full degree-programs including appropriate site options coursework consistency with current academic goals transfer credit procedures financial aid and immigration matters associated with F/J visa types. The person will also act as a UNCG liaison for students while they are participating in an incoming education abroad program. The person performing the primary function will be to provide full cycle support for all international students coming to UNCG from partner institutions or directly for degree programs. The person will also assist with partnership relations and agreement management efforts as needed and support duties as assigned in conjunction with the Associate Director of Study Abroad and Exchanges. The person will be providing advice and counsel on all issues of importance and concern to international students and scholars and sharing responsibilities for generating foreign student and scholar data reports from the Student & Exchange Visitor System ( SEVIS ) real-time interface and the Universitys student information system of record to ensure compliance with Federal and Commonwealth standards and to maintain data integrity.

Minimum Qualifications
The incumbent must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident as required by federal regulations in order to serve as a DSO and ARO . A Bachelors degree is required; a Masters degree with an international focus or in a related field is preferred. Outstanding intercultural sensitivity exemplary written and verbal competency excellent computer skills and experience working living and/or studying abroad are also required. The incumbent must be able to relate to students of diverse backgrounds and work effectively with multiple administrative and academic offices. Experience working in the education abroad field preferably in a public higher educational system like UNC would be advantageous to this position. Must have familiarity with J-l non-immigrant exchange sponsorship and F1 visa regulations. This position requires the ability to interpret policies and procedures of both UNCG and partner institutions and advise students accordingly.

Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree with an international focus or in a related field is preferred.
