The Role

About the Role:

As a Visual Instruction Developer Level 3 at Newport News Shipbuilding you will serve as a technical expert in developing advanced visual work instructions and manufacturing documentation that guide ship construction and integration activities. Youll collaborate across engineering planning and production teams to translate complex technical data into clear accurate and visually engaging content. Your experience will help drive standardization quality and innovation in how visual instructions are developed and implemented across programs.

Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of high-quality 2D and 3D visual work instructions for shipbuilding and manufacturing processes.

Interpret complex engineering drawings 3D models and specifications to create accurate step-by-step visual documentation.

Collaborate with engineering planning and trade experts to validate content and ensure compliance with design and production requirements.

Support continuous improvement initiatives by refining visualization processes templates and digital standards.

Serve as a mentor and technical lead for junior developers providing training and quality reviews.

Manage multiple projects ensuring timely delivery of accurate visual documentation to support production schedules.

Utilize advanced visualization and authoring tools (NX Teamcenter Creo or similar).

Analyze digital design data and utilize these products in conjunction with build plans to create quality and accurate Visual Work Instructions (VWIs). Interprets and adds design elements and portions of systems for VWIs to meet manufacturing and installation requirements. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as Teamcenter NX SAP NGP and TDP. Incorporates required changes as applicable. Advises management of the status of work in progress material availability and potential production problems to ensure that personnel equipment materials and services are provided as needed. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity quality and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.

Must Have

Associates Degree in relevant field and 3 Years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to an Associates Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing Shipbuilding Trades Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing Shipbuilding Trades Military experience

Nice to have

Experience in shipbuilding aerospace or other heavy industrial manufacturing environments.

Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements or documentation projects.

Knowledge of model-based definition (MBD) and digital manufacturing systems.

Strong project management and mentoring abilities.
