In the last 50 years food and water demand has skyrocketed and food producers have risen to the challenge. But these advances have come at a cost. Food production accounts for 90% of land-use change and 70% of water use and half of all people on the planet live with water scarcity.
By 2030 TNCs work on food freshwater and fisheries (Global Provide) is positioned as the most capable catalyst to accelerate global mainstreaming of solutions benefitting both people and nature. Our pathways to success include building a regenerative food system scaling nature-based solutions to support resilient freshwater systems and supporting commercial and community partners in building thriving fisheries
The Global Managing Director Sustainable Food & Water provides direct leadership and management for multiple organizational strategies that support TNCs mission of conserving biodiversity and addressing climate change and play a key role in accomplishing TNCs 2030 Goals They set overall conservation priorities for transforming working landscapes to ensure integration of approach and creating synergies in work implementation across the organization.
As a leading conservation spokesperson for the Conservancy the Global Managing Director represents the Conservancy internally and externally to an array of audiences advocating for and raising the visibility of organizational global priorities specific to food and water. They work on a global scale and are responsible for fundraising in the public and private sector to ensure that sufficient resources are available to accomplish the Conservancys overall strategic goals in this arena
Essential functions for this position include:
Develops leadership for the design and implementation of long term global strategic plans goals and objectives as they relate to TNCs strategic priority of providing food and water sustainability.
Plays a leading role in donor identification and cultivation.
Serves as the key representative for advancing working lands and other sustainable agricultural strategies with partners corporate entities and governments.
Geographic and programmatic size and scope is that of a large globally complex business unit which spans multiple countries.
Responsible for annual budgets and progress against annual goals and objectives.
Leads and manages a highly matrixed team that consists of multi-disciplinary staff who possess global expertise in conservation areas encompassed by food water and agriculture.
A people manager responsible for performance management and coaching of staff members.
Plays a leading role in managing complex partnerships with multiple international government agencies businesses community groups academia and elected officials.
Works with key partners to develop and communicate solutions and best practices.
Oversees the development of innovative scientific methods analysis tools and frameworks to advance and measure the relevant priority.
Negotiates complex and innovative solutions with various parties.
Provides mechanism for organization wide dialogue learning and capacity building on global priority issues.
Experience working with current trends and practices in area of global priority including a diversity of challenges across multiple global geographies.
Travels extensively within the US and abroad (up to 40-50%)
Bachelors or Graduate degree (preferred) in business law natural resource management or other relevant field and 10 years experience including 5 years experience at a senior level in international conservation field or equivalent combination.
Graduate degree in business law natural resource management and/or other relevant field.
Experience in partnership development (corporations community leaders governments non-profit organizations etc.) in multiple countries; experience with high-level government and conservation contacts.
Experience in linking science policy and practice to achieve tangible conservation and policy outcomes.
Experience working collaboratively with interdisciplinary senior leadership.
Supervisory experience in leading and managing a large multi-disciplinary team including managing senior level leaders.
Experience in evaluating and/or negotiating complex high profile or sensitive agreements.
Experience working within the politics society and environmental community on a global international scale.
Experience communicating with and presenting to diverse audiences including donors board members employees outside partners or equivalent.
Experience in fundraising including cultivation of major donors.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Multi- lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
Ability to create and implement a strategic vision.
Emotional intelligence and people centered leadership skills.
Developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical and business innovations for conservation purposes.
Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives and business / management experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.
Experienced in systems thinking and leadership.
Global awareness and mindset with regional sensitivity and understanding of food producing and consuming geographies.
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity taking into consideration legal restrictions such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of US $230000 $350000 annual base salary for candidates in the US. International locations will vary. Where asuccessful candidates actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors including for example the candidates location qualifications specific skills and experience.
