Position Summary
The Modern Languages & Cultures department seeks a passionate and energetic teacher to fill a full-time temporary teaching position beginning December 2 2025 and lasting until March 11 2026. Candidates should be interested in being part of a collaborative group of teachers and working with highly motivated high school students in a diverse mostly residential community.
Temporary housing with associated residential duties may be available.
Position Requirements
Candidates should be prepared to teach all levels of Japanese language classes. We especially encourage applicants with demonstrable experience teaching at the secondary level creating student-centered lessons fostering inclusive classroom environments and contributing to the broader school community.
Additional requirements:
- A bachelors degree in Japanese language literature linguistics or a related field is required.
- Experience teaching in a classroom setting for a minimum of 2 years. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- A commitment to diversity equity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
- Willingness to enforce all school policies and rules governing student behavior.
Accountabilities
While individual responsibilities will vary from one faculty position to another the major job duties of all faculty members include the following:
- Teaching:Faculty teach four classes per trimester. All classes are student-centered discussions around a Harkness order to meet the intellectual needs of the schools talented and highly motivated students teachers are expected to be dedicated to daily preparation for the best possible classes.
- Cultural Competency:Faculty are expected to demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences an orientation toward equity and inclusion and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
If residing in academy-provided housing residential associated duties include:
- Residential Life: Faculty generally reside in campus housing and play a critical role in cultivating Exeters community-centered student dormitory life. Each faculty member is generally responsible for one weekend per month and one to two nights per week of dormitory duty depending on the dormitory size.
- Advising:Faculty are expected to serve as mentors to student advisees throughout students time at Exeter. The adviser is the main liaison between an advisees family/guardian and the Academy.
