Title: Materials Planning & Logistics (MP&L) Manager
Position Overview:
A leading automotive manufacturer is seeking a Materials Planning & Logistics (MP&L) Manager to lead all aspects of production scheduling materials management warehousing and logistics for a high-volume plastics manufacturing operation. This individual will oversee the flow of raw materials and finished goods to ensure on-time delivery cost efficiency and seamless coordination between production purchasing and customer demand.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep experience in automotive manufacturing ERP systems and lean logistics practices who can drive operational excellence across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
& Production Planning
- Lead daily production scheduling activities to align with customer demand and capacity constraints.
- Develop and maintain master production schedules ensuring accurate inventory levels and just-in-time (JIT) material availability.
- Balance short-term priorities with long-term strategic planning for production efficiency.
2. Logistics & Inventory Management
- Oversee inbound and outbound logistics operations including shipping receiving and warehouse management.
- Implement processes to improve inventory accuracy reduce carrying costs and minimize downtime due to material shortages.
- Partner with carriers and suppliers to ensure reliable and cost-effective delivery performance.
3. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Supervise and develop a team of planners schedulers and logistics staff.
- Collaborate closely with operations procurement engineering and quality to align production schedules with business objectives.
- Promote a culture of accountability continuous improvement and proactive problem-solving.
4. ERP & Systems Management
- Utilize ERP systems (SAP and AS400) to manage materials flow production orders and reporting accuracy.
- Identify and implement system improvements to streamline processes and enhance data visibility.
- Ensure system data integrity for BOMs part numbers and supplier information.
5. Continuous Improvement & KPIs
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (OTD inventory turns freight cost schedule attainment).
- Lead process improvement projects to optimize supply chain performance reduce waste and enhance delivery reliability.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives to strengthen plant-wide operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management Business Industrial Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
- 10 years of progressive experience in Materials Management Logistics or Production Scheduling preferably in automotive manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems (SAP preferred; AS400 experience a plus).
- Proven success managing warehouse inventory and logistics operations in a fast-paced environment.
Technical & Leadership Skills:
- Deep understanding of lean manufacturing and JIT methodologies.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and logistics vendors.
Work Environment:
- On-site leadership role within a manufacturing plant environment.
- Frequent interaction with production quality and maintenance teams.
