Job Description

The Business Process Lead is a critical role responsible for driving strategy and continuous improvement across the Source-to-Settle and Record-to-Report processes and IT system solutions in uses in Gilead. While the role is based in the Controllership sub-function under Finance in Cork Ireland its influence is global and extends to other non-finance processes such as direct and indirect procurement as well as to other finance processes like Financial Planning & Analysis Treasury & Tax amongst others.

This position acts as a vital bridge between the business and IT translating high-level business capability requirements into tangible business cases and solutions. The lead is the end-user representative and is responsible for stewarding the identified initiative as well as enterprise projects through governance collaborating on implementation and ensuring solutions deliver real business benefit.

Key to the role is working closely with Gilead executives and business partners to understand process needs and challenges co-creating annual roadmap of initiatives with clearly articulated business value and then actively assisting with investment prioritization and project delivery in line with corporate and compliance standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Business Process Lead is responsible for driving continuous improvement and innovation across key financial processes primarily Source-to-Settle (STS) and Record-to-Report (RTR). The core functions of the role include:

  • Strategic Planning: Assisting the business in planning for the future contributing a process excellence perspective to business strategy and ensuring that systems and processes align with business goals.

  • Process Improvement: Leading the effort to standardize simplify and optimize global processes. This includes benchmarking against industry best practices to identify and implement improvements.

  • Project & Governance Management: Taking accountability for end-to-end business processes. This involves leading the development of business cases managing requirements and overseeing the entire program/project lifecycle from design to deployment and change management.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Serving as a primary liaison between the business and IT. This person ensures that the needs of both sides are met facilitates prioritization and manages communication and expectations throughout the process.

  • Compliance: Ensuring that all process changes and improvements adhere to quality security and risk management standards such as SOX compliance.

  • In essence this role is a hybrid of a strategist project manager and change agent tasked with modernizing and optimizing core business processes on a global scale while ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical capabilities.

Education & Experience

  • BA or BS degree in accounting / business administration / information management or equivalent with a CPA CA or similar accounting qualification.

  • 10 years of relevant experience.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience of working on finance transformation programs.

  • Problem solving/ resolution skills required with some formal training/accreditation in Lead/Six-Sigma Process Improvement a real plus.

  • SAP - SAP Financial experience is preferable

  • Experience and/or understanding of SAP and Ariba systems and process functionality

  • Proven ability to take projects to successful completion.

  • A quick learner with the curiosity to delve into the detail in each process area to quickly gain a deep understanding of the processes and how Gilead executes the STS and RTR process and how they underpin the relevant metrics and goals and perform deep dive analysis on the data; essentially someone who is willing to walk in the shoes of the process owner.

  • Well-developed influencing and change management skills that will allow for significant process lead-enabled improvements across the STS process area; experienced at building consensus among business and IT team members at all levels within the organization.

  • Ability to work and coordinate across organizational boundaries and demonstrate added value in all their efforts with the various business units regions and functions.

  • Strong business and technology acumen; General understanding of business and IT strategy/planning and overall understanding of IT planning and IT project lifecycle

  • Strong working knowledge of governance structures

  • Excellent verbal and written communication presentation facilitation and diplomacy skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Self-motivated proactive independent and responsive requires little supervisory attention

  • High level of personal integrity consistent with Gileads core values
