Job Summary
The Vice President (VP) of Oncology Nursing provides senior executive leadership and strategic direction for oncology nursing across the Mass General Brigham (MGB) system which includes multiple academic medical centers community hospitals and cancer care sites. The VP ensures a unified approach to oncology nursing practice quality innovation and patient experience across the continuum of cancer carespanning screening treatment inpatient and ambulatory services infusion radiation oncology supportive care and research.
This role requires collaboration with senior executives physician leaders and interdisciplinary teams to advance evidence-based care research integration and operational excellence in alignment with MGBs mission to deliver world-class cancer care and improve outcomes for patients and families.
Scope of Oversight
The VP coordinates/ and aligns oncology nursing services across all MGB entities that provide cancer care including but not limited to:- Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Womens Hospital cancer centers (inpatient outpatient infusion cellular therapy radiation oncology and clinical trials)
- Community hospital oncology programs across the MGB network
- Satellite cancer centers and future expansions
- Virtual oncology care and telehealth initiatives
The VP will lead oncology nursing strategy and operational alignment across the system ensuring standardization of clinical practice and quality while accounting for site-specific needs.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic and System-Level Leadership
Develop and execute a system-wide oncology nursing strategy aligned with MGBs cancer service line priorities.
Drive integration and standardization of nursing practice across MGB cancer programs ensuring consistency in care delivery models policies and quality.
Serve as the executive nursing leader for oncology in strategic planning for new programs expansions and innovative care models.
Partner with senior physician leaders advanced practice leadership and administrative executives to advance oncology care and research.
Clinical and Operational Leadership
Ensure the highest standards of evidence-based oncology nursing care across inpatient and outpatient environments.
Works with local operational leaders to align nursing operations for:
* Inpatient oncology units (medical oncology hematology bone marrow transplant cellular therapy)
* Ambulatory oncology clinics and infusion centers
* Radiation oncology and procedural areas
* Oncology clinical research nursing
Optimize patient throughput care coordination and efficiency across multiple sites leveraging data analytics and KPIs.
Maintain fiscal stewardship and budget management.
Academic and Research Integration
Collaborate with research leaders to integrate clinical trials into care delivery and ensure coordination of research nursing operations.
Promote nurse-led research scholarly publications and presentations at national conferences.
Strengthen partnerships with academic institutions to advance oncology nursing education and leadership development.
Workforce Development and Professional Practice
Advise operational leaders on the development and retention of a diverse and highly skilled oncology nursing workforce.
Foster professional growth through certification continuing education and leadership development.
Advance shared governance well-being initiatives and a culture of inclusion and excellence.
Regulatory Quality and Safety
Ensure compliance with federal state and accrediting bodies including Magnet standards and oncology-specific certifications (e.g. Commission on Cancer Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapy).
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using system-level dashboards and performance metrics.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree in Nursing required; Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) or related field strongly preferred.
Active RN license in Massachusetts (or eligibility).
Minimum of 10 years of progressive oncology nursing leadership including system-level or multi-site experience.
Demonstrated success in leading inpatient and ambulatory oncology nursing operations within an academic or large integrated health system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced oncology nursing certification (e.g. AOCN AOCNS AOCNP BMTCN).
- Leadership experience in a Magnet-designated or academic cancer center.
- Active participation in national oncology or nursing leadership organizations.
